I don't know if anyone would knwo the answer to this, but imagine you shot something in "true" HD but you wanted to edit it without going to a post house and all of that fun stuff, does anyone know (yet) if it would be possible to run out of a standard HD deck (f500 or j-h3... probably j-h3) into this new sony HDV deck so that you could have your content ready to edit in HDV?

The problem is, how will you get the HD footage to the HDV deck? The Sony deck M10U deck apparently only has standard-def s-video and composite video inputs... the only HD input would be the firewire port... no analog HD component inputs! It has component outputs, but no inputs. So if you want to edit downconverted SD it'd work, but if you want to edit it as HD, I don't think there's any way for you to get the HD signal to the deck.

You could output your data to an AJ-1200 DVCPRO-HD deck and then use firewire to transport that data to an FCP-HD or Avid Express HD system... then you could do a native hd edit on your desktop computer, but that's a $21,000 deck rather than the anticipated $3700 of the Sony.

Panasonic AJ-HD1200A is availble for rental around $2k / week including the SDI and Firewire options.

You could record component out of the FX/Z and avoid any m2t issues which would effectively give you real HD footage to work with

When combined with the mini35 option when available, it will form a package which will be hard to resist, even if interlaced, which could be taken care of in post

Edius 3 supports the DVCPROHD codec

if you have the BLACKMAGIC HD card in your computer, you can capture in hd jpeg on a firewire hard drive.

i have a weird idea - never tryed it, but who knows?

here it is:
usually on cheaper models of dv cameras there is no dv input for some reason, but it can be managed with DIY equipment.
i'm wondering is this also possible here - to receive pure HD signal thru component cables which will after some modifications act as video IN connectors.

of course you must have HDSDI -->analog component HD converter to do this, but this is obvious.

is this possible at all?
