Has anyone actually had tape drop outs with the FX1 using regular DV tape stock? I've heard the theories but was wondering if it's happened to anyone...especially using Panasonic MQ tape.
Thanks
Thanks

I've heard the theories but was wondering if it's happened to anyone...especially using Panasonic MQ tape. Thanks Barry Green January 5th, 2005, 02:23 PM Yes, I had one during shooting, and six during output back to the camera, using fresh Panasonic MQ tape. I would recommend going with the $18 Sony HDV tape, seeing as they introduced the tape specifically with the camera. Also, Sony has a premium DVCAM tape (over and above normal DVCAM tape), it's expensive but may provide that extra edge of dropout protection. The ideal would be to have great tape in the camera and a FireStore-type device giving a backup recording... Heath McKnight January 5th, 2005, 02:59 PM No problems with the black Sony mini-dv tapes (come in the blue wrapping). What do you think, Barry? heath Khoi Pham January 5th, 2005, 08:15 PM I have about 25 hrs. so far on the Sony Pr tape, and have not seen any drop out. Ron Evans January 5th, 2005, 08:30 PM None so far on Sony Premium DV tape. I get drop outs every time I have to use Panasonic MQ tapes on the DVX100 I rent ( rental requirement). Best advice is don't mix tape brands, start with the tape you are going to use. Considering the cost of the camera stay with Sony. Ron Evans |
