And I just bought a 300D... Bad timing as usual.

I felt the same way when I bought a silver Digital Rebel when it first came out and I saw that Japan had both black and silver.

I don't think it gains any added functionality over the silver one other than aesthetics. One reviewer mentioned that it "felt" different but didn't go into particulars.

I personaly like my 300D, even if the lens is kind of weak. Black or not, it is by far the nicest still cam I have ever owned.

Now, all I need is a table stand, and a nice lens. I was really pleased to find my GL1 filters and lenses will screw right on, so that is another plus.

I take it that you have the 18-55mm lens? I've heard its a good performer for the price. I considered it for my 20D but went with a 17-85mm IS USM lens since most of my telephoto work is without a tripod/monopod.

You are spot-on Tommy. The 18-55 lens IS nice, but just too weak for all of my shots. The truth is, it will be more than sufficient for most of what I would shoot, except for wildlife.

The resolution is good enough, that I could blow it up and crop the subject. But at that distance, it is hard for me to get a clear focus.
