Is it true that the XLR's have no line input and u must go through the RCA's. If so, that would be disappointing.

Yes, as far as I understand, the XL2's XLRs are mic only. However, I believe that if your mixer can output line or mic, and also accept both line or mic, then you can use a mixer with the XLR connections.
