I'm on a shoot now and my camera has been acting up. As soon as I turn it on, a loud motor sound comes from the lens...like an engine is trying to spin something. I've found ways of getting it to stop, but its trial and error, and it takes me about five minutes of tinkering. Then if it turn off, the same thing happens again when I turn it on. I know i probably need to send it in, but that's impossible right now. Anyone know what might be going on?

I'm using the standard 20x lens.

Thanks,

Rick Stephenson

Sounds like a service issue -- you'll need to contact Canon and send the camera and lens in for a check-up.

Sounds like the image stabilizer is not working correctly. Did you try to switch off the image stabilizer?

Yeah I've tried switching the lens stabilizer on and off as well as every other function I can find.

The way I've been getting around it has been to turn the camera on (it happens) then I zoom as far as I can. I turn it off, back on, and then slowly widen out. The motor noise changes as I zoom. Then, after a couple tries, it'll usually stop once I get wide.

I assume the camera is still under warranty, so get it sorted
through your dealer and/or Canon. This is a defect.
