Mike Rehmus September 12th, 2003, 04:37 PM The exhibition management have not defined the number of seminars at 3. Two of them are to be given by people who have ties to other video production houses and are expected to not want their mugs in my productions.
so much for their grand plans.
Thanks to all who responded. Perhaps when the show is repeated a few time, the seminar list will grow and become worthwhile to tape.
Kat Eiswald September 14th, 2003, 09:21 PM If you are located in Buenos Aires or can get there on your own power read on:
San Francisco group of Artists going to Buenos Aires to make a strange feature in collaboration with Argentine artists/interests.
Need a cameraperson who can also fill in on boom. I have equipement, but extreme familarity of the manual settings of GL2 required. Picky look.
Work load would be very part time but continuous...Filmmaker will be there for entire month; any time would be fine after the 8th.
Only room for one more person in the house, so they must count. Travel experience, Spanish experience ++
I can get crew in BA...but wanted to extend the opportunity to DVinfo personas...we are going to have fun.
Keith Loh September 14th, 2003, 10:39 PM It sounds really enticing Kat but alas I am stuck here all that time.
Buenos Airies.. oooo
Kat Eiswald September 14th, 2003, 10:53 PM cut it out...you know Vancouver is the most glamorous place of all!
Need a bolt cutter?
Keith Loh September 14th, 2003, 11:40 PM A financial bolt cutter, sure...
Haasim Mahanaim September 18th, 2003, 12:17 PM I'm in a broadcast journalism college program and I'm required to find an internship. I have no desire to work on the evening news in front of the camera or behind-the-scenes, but I am interested in radio/television documentaries and filmmaking.
I'm still pretty naive when it comes to 'the biz' and I'm only starting to realize what kind of job opportunties exist within this industry.
I live just outside of Toronto so I guess that's a good start, but what kind of job opportunties exist for a twentysomething still in school with a not so impressive demo reel.
I know that there are small groups that focus on things like commericals and music videos, but what else is there?
Any suggestions for web sites or magazines I should subscribe to?
Any thoughts about the adult video industry?
I'm not kidding. In fact, two of my classmates were offered jobs doing video stuff for a Toronto adult video company. They were shooting some event for a class project and they were offered a job by someone who was impressed with them. I really wish I had been with them.
I know this is a loaded question, but I could really use some help in figuring my options.
Mike Rehmus September 18th, 2003, 09:14 PM Go talk to the local film commission. With as many film and television projects that are shot in Canada, you should be able to find a production that would allow you to do a behind the scenes documentary. Those look to be fun and you can learn a lot as well as make some very great contacts.
Had you asked this question one year ago, I'd have introduced you to Joe Carnahan who directed 'Narc' in Toronto. You might also bounce around some of the production company web sites and see what they might mention what current projects are underway.
You can always emulate the buzzard in the cartoon who turns to a companion and says, in effect, "I'm tired of waiting, I'm going to go kill something!" Assign yourself a project if the school will allow you to do so. Then go do it.
I was allowed to do this during a cinema course. Instead of working throught their curriculum, I obtained permisison to do a couple of public service videos. I chose missing children as a subject as a well-publicized abduction had just occured in my town.
The police department made a big thing about the video and held a large press conference. The video ended up on national broadcast news, and that introduction to the local police department brought me my first contract, creating a 100 year anniversary video for the department.
Oh, yea, and I ended up working for the college for a while and am now under annual contract to tape acting classes. And they just hired me to do a television commercial for an upcoming play.
All because I did a 14 minute video. It wasn't great by my standards today. But it did the job in many ways.
Ed Kelly September 19th, 2003, 10:05 AM Hi,
if you havent had success with connecting with shooters for the NYC job, I/m interested.
I'm currently located about 160 miles north of the city, upstate, but would have no problem with your location.
I have a full production studio in a mobile unit which includes 2 XL1S, lighting sound, and all supporting gear. editing on mac with adobe premeire 6, or final cut pro.
I would be interested in the full use of my gear or just as a shooter.
If your interested, please email me back at tvcam@adelphia.net, and I'l shoot you my phone # and w'ell talk.
thanks, Krazy Eddie
Alain Aguilar September 19th, 2003, 12:01 PM If you are interested in participating in a short film (DV) production. Please respond. Shooting begins in November; three locations, two in Jersey City and one in North Bergen. The story deals with a fictional serial killer, and I'm looking to put together a small crew of gaffers, sound and grip. Join me in this interesting project. There is no pay involved and you are welcomed to bring your own equipment. Please contact me here for more detail or email me at a.aguilar8@verizon.net
Joe Graef September 22nd, 2003, 02:10 PM Looking for 1 video person with shooting experience to shoot company offices in Beloit, WI for our client.
We are talking about 8 rooms and a large manufacturing open area. The footage will be used at a later date with voice over.
You must have a 3CCD camera. No audio necessary. Think of it as a "virtual tour" project without audio and editing.
If you are willing to commute but require compensation please list that as well.
Please respond to modage@comcast.net with rates, samples of work (website if avail), references (if avail) and availability.
If you have any question please email.
Please disregard this message if you are reading after 10/1/03
Thank you!
Dan Wiencek September 26th, 2003, 01:55 PM My company needs to shoot a short interview with a textbook author for an upcoming multimedia project (CD-ROM delivery). Normally it would be my responsibility, but time and budgetary contraints make it unlikely I will be able to do the work. So I'm looking for some help.
This would be a single day's work and would require some local travel. You would coordinate on-site with another representative from my company who would oversee the session and make sure we got the content we needed.
This shoot would require a standard lighting setup and a lavalier for audio; no props are likely to be required. The actual shoot should take no more than an hour, and the raw footage would be sent directly to me without editing.
This would most likely need to happen the week of October 13. I'm afraid I don't have many more specifics right now, as this has come up rather suddenly.
If you're interested in this job, whether you have questions or would like to offer a tentative bid, please reply here or contact me directly at dan_wiencek@mcgraw-hill.com. If you aren't interested in the job yourself but know someone who might be, please forward their contact information to me. I will be out of the office all next week, but I will answer all inquiries on my return.
Thanks very much.

Lisa Lee October 2nd, 2003, 02:44 AM My husband and I were hired to do an HD shoot near SF in about a month or so. We just got the camera and realized that this is going to be much more difficult than we realized (this is a fussy camera...). If any of you are interested in shooting with us, toss me an email and I will give the details.
trusselle21@hotmail.com
Paul Mogg October 2nd, 2003, 12:24 PM Lisa, I am in the Bay Area, but I'm not sure I would want to do a paid shoot using this camera. For me it doesn't have the accuracy of controls to guarantee anything to a paying customer (but neither do most prosumer DV cams), so I don't think I'd feel comfortable with that. Maybe you should consider a higher end HD camera rental if you have a paying customer looking for HD. Don't get me wrong, I think this camera is capable of producing extremely high quality images, but that requires carefully managed lighting situations and a lot of practice with the camera.
Cheers
Don Donatello October 2nd, 2003, 01:48 PM i have to agree with Paul ..
if you have TOTAL control of lights then IMO you can get some good images ..however run & gun, no control over lighting IMO i would not take anybody's $$ using this camera unless they saw some ( good and BAD ) clips 1st . to most persons HD = excellent quality ..they are EXPECTING images to be FAR better then SD.
Glenn Gipson October 3rd, 2003, 10:42 AM I need a DVX 100 owner and operator to shoot my feature in New Jersey for 7 days in January. email me at gcgipson@yahoo.com for further details. Thanks.
Stuart Kupinsky October 4th, 2003, 04:49 PM Anyone know of any 48 Film Festival-like contests in the NY, Philly or DC area in November, December, or January? I know the 'official' 48hourfilm festival has one in Austin, TX in November, but wondering if anyone knows of any others (Instant Films is, as I understand it, sadly still L.A. only)?
Rob Lohman October 5th, 2003, 09:10 AM I think this project has been shot already a long time ago, guys!
Ted Bragg October 6th, 2003, 08:51 PM Just started offering this to small filmmakers who can't afford the $2k prices poster houses charge...
I'd like to network and get in touch with production companies who would need my services.
I have samples if ya'lls are interested:
www.tedbragg.com
I also do DVD/VHS jackets and labels, reasonable prices...
My main forte is painted art, but I also do photographics.
hope this isn't offtopic...
TIA
Ted
Rob Lohman October 7th, 2003, 10:17 AM WOW! Those are looking very nice. If you update your profile
by going to the user cp in the upper right corner you can fill
in your site in the homepage part. Whenever you'll post here
there will be a WWW button under your post that people
can click, thought you'd might like to know that.
Rob Lohman October 7th, 2003, 01:45 PM Instant Films is to the best of my knowledge still LA only indeed...
Charles Papert October 7th, 2003, 02:44 PM So far, yes. When the corporate sponsorship comes in, taking the show on the road is part of the plan.
Paul Martin October 7th, 2003, 07:51 PM Over the past week I watched 5 of the films in the Honigmann retrospective at MOMA. I was astounded by them all. Along with Hou Hsiou Hsien, Godard, and Rohmer she is now one of the most interesting living filmmakers to me. I want very much to work for a film/videomaker whose work I admire so that I can help to make possible film and video I am passionate about and in so doing intimately learn the process involved. Does anyone know a way I can contact Honigmann (ie when and where her next in-person screening will take place or if there is a way I can email her)? Feel free to post a response or email me directly.
Thanks
Ozzie Leon October 8th, 2003, 12:53 PM Head to the theather department at any school, you will get lots of help.

Rob Lohman October 8th, 2003, 01:49 PM This one (http://us.imdb.com/name/nm0393322/)? It is usually hard to track down
such people and get them to seriously listen to you <g>
Ted Bragg October 9th, 2003, 12:03 PM Thanks! I'll do just that!
Rik Sanchez October 9th, 2003, 07:25 PM Yeah, very good work. Over here in Japan a lot of movie theaters have hand painted bill boards advertising the movie. Usually it's a shot from the movie and the artists are pretty good except sometimes you will see one with the nose or jaw totally off and then it looks kinda funny. With Japan being so high tech, it's nice to see the personal touch is still around. Good luck with you work.
Bill Peterson October 10th, 2003, 03:49 PM Ok let's see if it really works. Hoping the rule of 6's will turn up a recommended shooter for me in Barcelona
Middle of the 1st week in November I've got a client who could use a little help shooting some footage on his DVX100 while he's there. It would be a student in front of subway with landmark in scene talking about their dual degree program and then some general scenic shots and then some shooting at the University of Barcelona.
Not high pressure stuff but it needs more cinemagraphic ability than my (nice guy) client can muster, I think.
Can anyone think of a good guy or gal for such a gig? I would appreciate it. My project would be better too with a shooter, shooting.
Thanks,
Bpete
Brian Huey October 11th, 2003, 03:18 AM Posted this earlier but guess I didn't hit the 'submit' button:
Good looking work, are those from movies you've just made up or from actual fims? I take it that it's the former since the 'Fear in the Mist' with Bruce Campbell caught my eye, but I hadn't heard of it before.
Have you seen "Bubba Ho-Tep"? It's a great Bruce Campbell flick.
Cheers,
Huey
Haasim Mahanaim October 11th, 2003, 09:47 AM Originally posted by Brian Huey :

For me it was Chase Masterson and Robert Beltran that caught my eye. Masterson was a recurring character on Star Trek DS9 and Beltran was the First Officer on Star Trek Voyager.
Anyway, I love the posters. (I'm curious about the SpaceMan movie. I love how the poster looks like something from a 70's scifi flick.)
Hopefully sometime in 2004 or 2005 I will be ready to make use of your services. :)
Mike Rehmus October 11th, 2003, 01:22 PM WE've got one member from Barcelona. Do a search on the city name.
Stacy Principle October 12th, 2003, 08:48 PM Hello everyone im new to the dv community so bear with me. Thanks!
Im in the last stages of pre production on a 15 min short. I was going to shoot it on a gl2 but now im thinking about shooting it with pro 8mm for the low light aspect. I can get my hands on a sony vx2000 so maybe that can work!
I need some advice from some members!! Thanks.
IM from Chicago so if any members want to get involved in my next film get at me. Im a poor college student so i can`t pay you but i can sure feed you with some good chi town cooking!
Rob Lohman October 13th, 2003, 12:23 PM Keep in mind that 8mm shooting is going to cost you more then
when you shoot it on DV. Also, if it is your first short I'd highly
recommend shooting on digital, trust me on that one.
Another tip: please use descriptive titles for threads. A thread
with the name "A little info please?" doesn't give out any
information at all to what your question is. A lot of people just
skips those threads since the number of threads are increasing
every day here.
Thanks!

Stacy Principle October 13th, 2003, 09:53 PM Thanks Rob on the info, I think i will shoot on dv but i think it will be the sony vx2000 with promist filters.
thanks and long live indies.
Mike Rehmus October 13th, 2003, 10:12 PM Recommend you do your filtering in post, not in the camera. That way you have choices.
Stacy Principle October 14th, 2003, 02:10 AM Thanks Mike for your help.
To all members, i have a connection to a indie art house theather in Benton Harbor MI that would like to show indie filmmakers works.
You will need your film on Vhs or dvd, and a poster for your promotion.
If you live in the greater Chicago area or closer, Benton Harbor is about 95 miles away. If this sounds good to you you can email me or leave me a post.
PS. IN Benton Harbor they are starving for a film movement so the city will not give you a hard time about shooting on their streets and the lake is a wonderful place to shoot for free.
I will be shooting my short there so come check me out !
1 avenue films... GOT 2 LUV IT!
Ted Bragg October 17th, 2003, 11:57 AM Spaceman will be re-worked to look more dynamic...the one up there now is a 'teaser'.
I'm a big fan of Campbell and everybody 'starring' in my posters. Sadly, I can't find good photo refs of any of those actors...
I've got a sale going on right now! Instead of the normal $400 fee, first time customers can get their one-sheet poster done up for only $150.
Take a look at www.tedbragg.com and email me.
Betsy Moore October 17th, 2003, 03:59 PM Putting together a two-character Charlie Kaufmanesque feature set in a cabin, shooting from November 8-November 23 up at Big Bear, CA two hours outside Los Angeles--and we need a camera operator and a sound man.
We're using the new JVC HD camcorder and in case you're curious, we're thrilled with the quality of the images it produces.
Unfortunately, there's no pay, it's only a labor of love--but it's a great script and great actors--and on the off chance someone buys it after it plays the festivals, of course all those involved would get a generous percentage. It could especially be a good oportunity for someone just starting out and looking for experience.
As two weeks is a long commitment, we only expect people to volunteer a portion of that time--we'd be thrilled to use whatever hours you have to offer.
If you're interested we'll email you a PDF of the script to see if it enthuses you.
Also, in exchange for any days worked on the movie my colleague will be glad to volunteer his services and the HD cam for any project in the LA area you'd like to do.
Thanks for reading:)
Bryan McCullough October 17th, 2003, 09:01 PM First off, I'd like to see who is around here so I know who I can call on when I need something.
Secondly, I'm currently planning to shoot a pilot of a show I've developed to pitch to TLC (and similiar stations). I'll need some crew for the shoot. This would be a pro-bono deal.
Let me know if you're in this area and what your interest is.
Thanks.
Alex Ellerrman October 21st, 2003, 07:54 PM Intelligent micro budget indie thriller feature from repped writer lensing in Chicago this winter... Project will likely originate on HD. 7 actors, one location, catered, etc.
Looking for various crew positions, including sound and line producer. Please send resume to alex@kirchit.com
thank you

Peter Rummel October 25th, 2003, 12:25 AM What a coincidence. I have a friend who is an excellent shooter who just moved to Barcelona with his family a couple of weeks ago. Let me know if you're still interested and I'll see if I can find out his new email address.
Bill Peterson October 25th, 2003, 06:04 AM Thanks Peter ... but we just contracted someone there on Thursday.

Matt Woodson October 26th, 2003, 11:57 AM Hi everyone,
I'll be shooting a feature indie film in May 2004 in Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada. I'm currently looking for a cinematographer who knows what they are doing with the camera. The film will be shot with Panasonic DVX 100 or Canon XL1S. My goal is going to be to make the film look
"film like". If any of you are serious about it and are intrested, email me for more details.
IMPORTANT: please also note that this is low-budget film, we are putting money from our own pockets, thats why we can't afford to pay anyone, all our actors and another crew are doing this for free. This is a film that we will be entering for film festivals. We want to get out there and have lots of fun with the filming cause thats the most important thing. If any of you want to gain more experience, get more credit, and maybe get recognized at festivals and have some fun, then email me if your serious about it for more details.
Yes we will provide, shelter and food, and entertainment.
Derrick Begin October 28th, 2003, 09:55 AM I am looking to rent a GL1/GL2 for two weeks in July 2004 for a wedding project.
I have an XL1S that I will be using the GL for coverage shots. This is a NON-COMMERCIAL, NON-Paying gig that I am doing.
Your camera will be cared for and taken care of and insured by me.
Thanks in advance.
AREA: NEW YORK CITY
Cheers!
