Hello

http://www.canon-europe.com/For_Home/Product_Finder/Camcorders/Digital/XL2/index.asp?ComponentID=207214&SourcePageID=26346

The Canon Europe website anounces:
"In sync Both Rec Run and Free Run SMPTE time code is supported. 2 built-in phantom powered XLR jacks and a BNC jack for monitor output is provided. An IEEE1394 connection allows direct hard disk recording.

Hopefully you can switch an 2,5" Firewire harddisk like the :

http://www.lacie.com/de/products/product.htm?pid=10558
to it.

For me direct hard disk recording means recording directly to an IEEE1394 Harddisk without using an laptop.

Whats your opinion?

Greetings from cold and snowy germany

Thomas

Hello Thomas,

It's not just recording to a hard disk that matters.

It's recording *edit ready* files to a hard disk. This is what matters.

Currently there are three options available: FireStore by Focus Enhancements, QuickStream by MCE, and the A2D by nNovia. You'll want to browse through our specialty forum "Direct-to-Disk (Tapeless) Recording Solutions (http://www.dvinfo.net/conf/forumdisplay.php?s=&forumid=60)" for more info.

Greetings from wet and muddy Texas.

I would also add that there is something very nice about being able to use the laptop display as a monitor and when used with DV Rack the other utility features it offers are a serious boon to production.
