I saw somewhere that if an electronic device is actually defective, the defect will be apparent in the first 1-3 months of use. I can't cite the source because I don't remember, but it was a magazine like Consumer Reports or a feature on a prime-time TV news program. For as much as we spend on professional gear, it had better last. When it doesn't, word gets out and companies lose money.
