Just finished shooting day one of two with the Canon XL2 and mini35 system and some of the stills have been posted on www.starcentral.ca/mini35rig.htm.
A video likely to follow in a couple of weeks.

Dennis,
Could you please explain why you used negative gain (-3). I'm not second guessing you, I really have no idea why anyone would do this or what it really does for that matter. I understand boosting the gain in low light and see what that does. Does reducing the gain to a negative value serve the same purpose as an ND filter or closing the iris?
Thanks,
Matt

The reason is probably more psychological than anything :) I tend to think less than zero gain means less noise but likely this isn't true anyway. Actually there were a few cases where I had to go to 0dB gain, I'll see that the information on the web site gets updated.
I mainly used -3dB to avoid having to change ND filters on the lens because of shifting clouds and changing light levels.
I would definitely never shoot above 0dB though.

I can't get the bmw one to start...the skin pops up....and then after awhile the window goes blank. The other two videos start fine...but stutter after a few seconds and then stop.

Thanks for pointing that out. I will probably have to embed QuickTime files for better playback compatibility. I was using WMV version 9.
Damn.
