You mean like Pinnacle Liquid Edition, where the app renders in the background as one edits? If that is the question, then no, Premiere Pro does not have this feature.

Guess I'll buy the Matrox X100 then... thanks Christopher Lefchik November 18th, 2005, 06:52 PM Best Way to Get a DVD VOB File into an AVI that PPro can edit? I suggest checking out this guide, "How to frameserve DVD/MPEG2/HDTV to an advanced video editor" (http://www.videohelp.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=261416), that shows how to edit the DVD contents from within Premiere (or another editor). James Llewellyn November 18th, 2005, 09:14 PM I suggest checking out this guide, "How to frameserve DVD/MPEG2/HDTV to an advanced video editor" (http://www.videohelp.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=261416), that shows how to edit the DVD contents from within Premiere (or another editor). That there is just what he needs. I used the same method when I started ripping and editing dvd's. Cody Dulock November 19th, 2005, 07:47 AM since it is really bright at the windows, making everything else dark since your camera exposed more for the windows it seems like... try going into after effects and making masks around the bright windows, then apply filters to those new mask layers (there should be an eraser function in your tools window, that will create a mask on a new layer). so add a brightness contrast filter to the window layer and you should be good if your whole thing was on tripod with that camera. Agus Casse November 19th, 2005, 01:31 PM Hello i am having a lot of problems when putting some titles similar to the ones that you see in tv normally, but when i render it it looses a lot of quality, i even tried to normalize to broadcast colors, and it improved a little, but still looks like crap... i put the samples below. http://www.todosobreruedas.tv/rendertest/frametest1.jpg like it should. http://www.todosobreruedas.tv/rendertest/frametest2.jpg looks bad, check where it says TSR. Any solution for this ?? Max Hagelstam November 20th, 2005, 02:50 AM Is this a "normal" DV-project and image 1 is before render and image 2 after render? There seems to be several issues (although image no 2 seems to suffer of jpg-artifacts)... - Are you thingking of the interlace-lines? Where will you show the video, tv, internet etc? Is there any motion applied to the title (looks like a crawltext at the top)? Correct project settings? - The slight blurryness of the title (image 2) seems to resemble somewhat of the AMD title issue that some people have had. Are you using a AMD cpu by any chance? If so, try to apply a "dummy-filter" to the clip beneath the title (ex a brightness/contrast filter with the default settings). /Max David Aguilar November 20th, 2005, 03:32 AM Just wondering if it's possible to render a movie using multiple computers in Premiere Pro and/or in Encore. Jim Rog November 20th, 2005, 06:04 AM Hello Can anyone advise me what plug-ins are available for Adobe Premiere to give your HD footage a film look? is it possible to get a film look with something that has been shot in HD with the right plug-ins? Thanks Agus Casse November 20th, 2005, 10:59 AM I am using a intel P4. Also the settings are the normal for dv proyects in premiere, and the video is made for a tv show. also thhe text in the red bar is also moving, thats why it is interlaced. Seens taht the dv codec has problems with red over black only. Roger Averdahl November 20th, 2005, 11:22 AM Agus, read about titles, colors and DV compression here: Great titles with the DV Codec (http://www.creativecow.net/articles/hodgetts_philip/titles/index.html) It may be helpful for you! :) /Roger Glenn Chan November 20th, 2005, 04:19 PM Check the film look forum here. As far as I know, Magic Bullet Editor's is really the only "film look" plug-in for Premiere. There's also Color Finesse, which is a pricier color correction tool. It has a higher learning curve and is useful if you want to spent more time coloring your shots. Color Finesse and MBE do some things the other cannot do. is it possible to get a film look with something that has been shot in HD with the right plug-ins? There's lots of threads about this in the film look forum. Generally what the plug-ins don't do is: A- Increase the amount of information captured to equal film. Film captures greater exposure latitude than video. B- Film shoots typically have more money and more talented people working on them. The film look plugins don't do anything about that. C- Video may have more high contrast edges than film. It helps to turn off edge enhancement on your camera. Glenn Chan November 20th, 2005, 04:21 PM Try making the red brighter? The color is going to bleed all over because of the 4:1:1 color space. Jim Rog November 20th, 2005, 05:26 PM Thank you very much Glenn much appreciated for your help and time on this. I am new to video editing so i am trying to get as much information as i can and i hope when i am up to your standard i can offer my assistants to people who are just starting out like my self. Thanks again Jim Agus Casse November 20th, 2005, 09:25 PM that tutorial is great... still the compresion smooth out your high contrast fonts, especially at red... I found that in the TV even the compression problems it seens ok... still if you see the master you notice the loss of quality. This issue should be more investigated, perhaps using another method of editiing and recompress afterwars it could get better results. The same happened to me using magic bullet, when you interlace with it and compress it to DV you seen a whole diferente result if you export it uncompressed. Patrick Smith November 21st, 2005, 08:57 AM Well, being sorta new to the whole editing scene, not trying to make a career out of it, I was wondering some ideas or suggestions you guys may have for me when editing to spice things up. Sure I have adapted to some things as my own style, as you probably have, but I'm looking for some new things to try... Some backround... I got a free Prinacle Studio with my purchase of my canon optura 300 back in May 2004. I learned how to edit, and the basics. I then upgraded and purchased Premiere after about 5-6 edits with Pinnacle. I now have done over 10 projects with Premiere, and have tryed just about everything, from changing the clip speed, all the transitions, key frames with music, long and short fades, im sure I forgetting a lot. But when it comes down to it, what am I really missing? I'm pursing a career in Mass Commuications/Journalism, and I know I going to have to learn AVID down the road. But what really makes AVID that much different then Final Cut Pro or Premiere? Glenn Chan November 21st, 2005, 09:01 AM Avid was one of the editing systems around in the early days that worked well. It's been kind of the industry standard since then, but Final Cut (and some other editing programs) have been eroding away at it. For journalism, it doesn't matter too much what you use. Some places still edit linear because it can be faster. Ed Smith November 21st, 2005, 11:31 AM Premiere as far as I am aware does not have a network rendering farm option. Sorry... It would be a cool feature. Patrick Smith November 21st, 2005, 03:37 PM Avid was one of the editing systems around in the early days that worked well. It's been kind of the industry standard since then, but Final Cut (and some other editing programs) have been eroding away at it. For journalism, it doesn't matter too much what you use. Some places still edit linear because it can be faster. i found that linear is hard. Not so much hard as time consuming. I oculd edit something way faster non-linear. But i never grew up doing linear Karl J Martin November 21st, 2005, 04:54 PM So I read someplace that a USB2 connection has sufficient bandwidth to record a DV signal to an external drive (ie, firewire from camera to laptop, and USB2 from laptop to external HD; in this case, a 160GB Iomega unit). Anyone have any experience with the set-up? Duz it work...? I'll try a test cap myself tonight, but if anyone has advice they wanna share... Shannon Rawls November 21st, 2005, 06:35 PM works flawlessly. as a matter of fact, I used to capture straight to an 80GB 2.5" laptop drive that I put in sleek little portable case that was connected to my Sony Vaio Laptop using DV Rack. The drive was bus powered by the USB and it captured the incoming DV without a hitch. Remember, this is a 4200rpm drive... so a full 7200RPM 3.5" drive connected via USB2 is no problem (which I have done as well) Only thing... make sure your computer is fast enough, because USB is not asynchronous like Firewire (which is why it is prefered). What that means is, when you use firewire, even though it is technically slower then usb2, it does not require any CPU or computer muscle to communicate. its like going from the camera DIRECTLY to the drive through the cables. The computer is there only to point it in the right direction. However with USB...the video has to go through the computer procesor to be told what to do and then finally spit out via USB2. So basically, an old PIII crappy laptop with 256k of RAM can easily capture DV using a firewire PCMCIA card. But if you try that same computer with a USB2 PCMCIA card...you can bet it will choke. - ShannonRawls.com Cesar Perez November 22nd, 2005, 03:55 AM If I, during edition, on time line "cut" audio of each clip. How can I, after finishing movie, add again original audio to some clips. I'm working on premiere pro. Thanks. Shaun Patterson November 22nd, 2005, 08:00 AM I've been having to use premiere pro 1.0 to capture from minidv because 1.5 does not reconized the device. But, latley for some odd reason, when i go to capture in premiere 1.0, it captures for about 10 or so minutes and then automatically stops no matter what tape it is or camera. I reinstalled premiere 1.0, and that did not fix my problem. So i was wondering if you have any suggestions on what to do next, and mabye know about any updates for premiere 1.5 that would allow me to caputre there. Thnx I had the exact same problem about 2 months ago and have yet to understand why is happenning. The camera seems to work on and off between to different work stations. Sometines i encountered problems relatted more so to problems on my PC not accosiatted with Premeire. Barry Oppenheim November 22nd, 2005, 08:49 AM Not sure what you mean by "cut". Do you mean remove the original audio track from the timeline, edit the video, than add the original unedited audio to the video? If so, what you want to do is right click on your video/audio on the timeline and select unlink audio and video. This will allow you to edit the video without affecting the audio track. Barry Oppenheim Karl J Martin November 22nd, 2005, 11:52 AM Okay, here's what's weird... I connected the DVX to the laptop via firewire, and the laptop to the external drive via USB2, and set Premiere Pro 1.5 to capture from the camera to the external HD... ...and the capture went flawlessly; no drops, no hitches. But, when I imported the captured video and dropped it onto the Pro 1.5 timeline, it wouldn't play back; I hit the 'play' button and the image just stayed frozen. If I used the jog wheel, I could jog and shuttle through, just fine. I could step frame-by-frame, just fine. But playing the video back offa the external HD, wasn't working, at all. Whaddya suppose was happening, there...? Cesar Perez November 22nd, 2005, 12:45 PM If i have clip of ten seconds, and i need only 3 second of this clip....i cut clip in monitor and put the clip on timeline. Then i was lock the video line, and with right click on audio (that comes with this 3 second of clip), i choose "cut". So now i have clip without sound...how can i add again this 3 second of audio, without ctrl+z. Hope that you understand me becouse my english is bad. Simon Ward November 22nd, 2005, 03:18 PM Hi, Just started learning Premiere Pro 1.5 and it seems a fantastic package. Just a simple question. Can I capture footage straight from a DVD disc or must it be on the harddrive first? Many thanks for any help. Simon Shannon Rawls November 22nd, 2005, 03:19 PM Sorry Bro. now we are getting into software issues and I am a Vegas user, not Premier, so I can't help. *sad face* But try this.... Use something OTHER THAN premier to capture. See how that goes. Maybe the free Windows Movie Maker that comes with XP? or anything else. Now you start narrowing down the issue. - ShannonRawls.com Boyd Ostroff November 22nd, 2005, 03:29 PM Moderator note: I've moved this thread to our Premiere forum where you may find someone who can help with this issue Miguel Lombana November 22nd, 2005, 04:24 PM that's what I meant... Guess I'll buy the Matrox X100 then... thanks You can also consider the Canopus cards, I've been using them for a little over 2 years and "love'em" no need to render, all realtime, I just hit play. Even exports are better than realtime, I can export to AVI a 15 minute wedding ceremony with effects and transitions, 2 video tracks, 3 to 4 audio tracks and some graphics in under 5 minutes. Miguel Andrew Green November 22nd, 2005, 06:04 PM Argh! There, now with that out of my system, I would greatly appreciate any sage advice on a problem I'm having with this effect. Here's an image of the issue: http://www.andrewngreen.com/machina.jpg What I'm trying to achieve is a static background (the road - footage set to 'hold on out point' with hold filters and deinterlaced), with each of the cars separated from the background, so I can trigger them to travel along the road whenever I like. There may be a better way to do this (using a difference key?), but I used keyframed garbage mattes, and I've got it all set up so they trigger correctly, and it looks fine. So, everything is going swimmingly, except I get these outlines around each of the cars. In the screenshot above they look black, but they come out a teal green in the video. I've searched the net pretty comprehensively, and the forums too, but the closest to a solution I've found is in the Vegas forum here: http://www.dvinfo.net/conf/showthread.php?t=53436 I have no idea how/if this solution translates to Premiere. Aside from the garbage matte, there are no other effects on the footage, aside from it being accelerated by 3-400%. Ideally, I'd like to keep the garbage mattes and just remove the lines, but if the only way to fix this issue is to approach it completely differently, then I'd love to hear a good way to do that, too. Cheers! Agus Casse November 22nd, 2005, 06:57 PM Okay, here's what's weird... Whaddya suppose was happening, there...? Is the camera on when you are doing this ? is teh video coming out to the camera and not in the pc ? if so, un check the proyect setting to disable the output video to the firewire. Matthew Coady November 23rd, 2005, 01:13 AM Yup, 4:3 is exactly what I have to change. Anyone know if its possible to change between the two during editing? When I began the project i picked widescreen preset under panasonic 24p. When I go up to project>project settings>general I can see 16:9 there, but it won't let me do anything to it (its greyed out). Is there somewhere I can go to modify this setting. Otherwise I'll have to recut everything I've done so far :( Or atleast if theres a way to import the cuts from another project... *edit* oh hey! simply going to file>import then importing my old file fixes the problem. Thanks everyone :) Max Hagelstam November 23rd, 2005, 07:22 AM Nope... A workaround (admittedly not a cheap one) could be After Effects together with: http://www.gridironxfactor.com/ As I said, not cheap but fast. /Max Simon Ward November 23rd, 2005, 11:16 AM I simple yes or no would even help Barry Oppenheim November 23rd, 2005, 11:50 AM If you have cut the audio from the timeline you can: Paste the audio anywhere on the timeline by moving the timeline index to the point you want, the go to EDIT/PASTE on the menu. If you want to put a different portion of the audio with the video (in other words and out of sync audio) you can cut out the portion of audio you want and paste it the same way as above. Barry Oppenheim Steven Gotz November 23rd, 2005, 03:40 PM You need to rip the footage to a DV-AVI with a program like ImTooDVD Andrew Green November 23rd, 2005, 05:45 PM Well, I'm still not having any luck tracking down a solution to this one, but I have tried some further troubleshooting.. I tried removing the background completely - the lines are still there - so they're definitely part of the image which has the garbage matte applied to it, not a reaction by the background. Also, I just noticed the green lines (black lines on the exported frames, but they come out green on the .avi exported, and the DVD) also appear on this image, which also has a garbage matte applied to it, but this one doesn't have any keyframed motion: http://www.andrewngreen.com/machina2.jpg So the keyframing's not creating the lines. Also, if you look at the image above, you can see the line actually gets thicker towards the top. Don't know what significance that has, but I thought it may be related to aliasing or interlacing, or possibly as a result of the speed increase applied to the clip. So I tried slowing it down to 100% speed, but this didn't fix the problem. Also, I have other clips in the same timeline where I've used garbage mattes with sped up footage, and there are no lines! I'm baffled. I'd greatly appreciate any help with this one - I'm looking at entering the film in a local festival, but can't unless I can get rid of these weird green lines! Andrew Green November 23rd, 2005, 06:40 PM Well well, boys n girls - after losing some sleep and removing some hair, I finally had a light bulb moment.. So, while I know it's a bit selfish to hog the whole thread like this, I thought I might share the solution with you folk.. It was all about motion settings - I had used 'motion' to scale up both of the bits of footage I was having problems with. At normal scale, the green line disappeared. So I tried setting 'motion' back to 100% scale, and applying the scale increase using a Transform filter instead.. Voila - au revoir green line, bonjour decent-looking garbage matte effect! So now, after I manage to copy and paste the new settings to each of the dozens of snippets of footage which need it, I'll be in business.. and hopefully in the film festival too.. Cheers.. Wes Coughlin November 23rd, 2005, 07:05 PM I was trying to export a quick low quality dvd for a preview for some clients of what there was edited of a video; it locked the computer up and when i restarted to reopen the project, the file came up damage and would not open, is there anyway i can open this???? i need the 10+ minutes of footage i edited, really really bad. PLEASE HELP!!!! David Aguilar November 23rd, 2005, 07:31 PM Have you check your "Adobe Premiere Pro Auto-Save" folder? theres should be a back-up file there, (if you had auto save enable). good luck, Wes Coughlin November 23rd, 2005, 07:55 PM all my auto-save files are also corrupted for some odd reason, any ideas? Roger Averdahl November 24th, 2005, 05:41 AM all my auto-save files are also corrupted for some odd reason, any ideas? Try to import your project into a new project. It works sometimes, not always though... Can you open any project at all in Premiere Pro? It is strange that all the audo saved files are corrupted. A good habit is to take backups of your project files on a dialy basis and use the Save a Copy feature (File > Save a Copy) before and after major changes in the project. This will save you time in the future. :) /Roger Michael Karrer November 24th, 2005, 09:08 AM Is there any way to achieve the same as "velocity curves" in Vegas with Premiere Pro? I know i can change the overall speed of a clip but how to change the speed in time? (Sorry about my engrish but i life in the same town where schwarzeneger was born - what else can i say... ) Steven Gotz November 24th, 2005, 09:15 AM Premiere Pro does not have that. After Effects does, it is called Time Remapping. Michael Karrer November 24th, 2005, 09:27 AM Thanks a lot - now i know i have wasted two or three hours searching ... I am still searching for my editing programm - Adobe Premiere, Vegas, Avid or Edius. I have absolutely no clue how to find out whats best for me... - maybe another thread ;) Ron Evans November 24th, 2005, 09:34 PM I have Premiere Pro 1.5.1, Vegas 6 and Edius Pro 3. By choice for DV I use Edius it is the fastest and if it has the capability to do what you want is the easiest. Vegas is by far the most flexible for DV and HDV but is also the slowest at almost everything. If you do long format programs ( events like theatre of several hours at a time) then Edius with Canopus hardware is the way to go with realtime output to DV. IF you need fine control of absolutely everything then Vegas 6 is the one. Although I started on Fast Video Machine moved to Premiere for most of the time, in the last year I use Edius the most and turn to Vegas for the things Edius can't do, special audio mixes , keyframes control of pan and crop etc. Ron Evans Josh Woll November 25th, 2005, 01:13 PM Have you checked to see if you have a screen saver running in the background because if anything is going on in the background that might run over premiere while it's capturing it will automatically stop. There could be a timer saver in the camera as well if nothing is going on for so long it will go into stand-by mode. This will cause the capturing to stop. Those are a few options if you have not already considered them. Hope this helps. Josh Woll November 25th, 2005, 01:18 PM I already have Scenelyzer so please do not think this is another post about that issue. I just find it difficult wondering how hard it is to have an editing program that will have the option of capturing all 4 channels? I'm soon upgrading to Final Cut 5 when I finally receive my powermac and I know for a fact you can switch b/t 1/2 and 3/4 when capturing the footage. Can anybody, or if you want to explain why this is so difficult? Dan Euritt November 25th, 2005, 02:28 PM scenealyzer gives you all of the options that you need to capture audio channels from tape, including all four channels at once... are you saying that some unspecified editing programs are not capable of that? since you already have scenealyzer, you don't have any problem capturing audio, so it's not clear what the point of your post is. |
