Greg, I experienced similar symptoms yesterday, with audio being audible only when I moved the CTI with the mouse, not when I played. I realised I had my XL2 hooked up via 1394 for doing tape capture earlier. Once I yanked out the 1394 cable, the audio would play as usual.

My situation/circumstances may be different from yours, so your mileage may vary!

I can't remember where this setting is, but I found it, and eliminated the same problem your having.

Anybody? I still need to find a good stabilizer plugin for PPro. Any suggestion is more than welcomed.

This may seem silly but here goes:

I notice that when I shut down PPro 1.5 after an editing session, everything stays exactly as I had left it when I open the program again at a later time. Wherever I left the timeline curser at shutdown is exactly where I find it when I re-open the program. The last sequence I worked on is the first sequence to show. I think that is fabulous. However, one thing I've noticed is that if I had left a trimmed clip in the source monitor (left monitor) at shutdown, it isn't there when I re-open the program. Is that normal? The reason I ask is that I never noticed if that happened before but I noticed it recently after freshly re-installing PPro 1.5 on my hard drive.

May I ask my fellow PPro 1.5 users a favor? Can a few of you chaps open the program, place any clip in the source view monitor (the left or trimmer monitor if you will), save, shut down the program then re-open to see of the clip is still there? I want to see if I re-installed incorrectly or if I have a problem. My reasoning is that if the clip wrongfully disappears in the source monitor at shutdown, what else important might disappear?

I did as you requested and mine did the same thing. The clip where the timelime marker is resting comes up in the monitor window. Sounds right to me!

I'm a little stumped on preview render speeds in Premiere Pro 1.5. I'm new to Premiere.

When I use Vegas and apply a Magic Bullet film effect to a video clip, I can resize the preview window to a small size, say 25%, and set the preview quality to draft mode. The resulting preview render occurs in real-time. It's pixelated heavily, but that's ok -- it means I can apply a number of video effects and still play them back in real time to get an idea of what they look like.

However, in Premiere Pro 1.5 I'm having trouble getting the same performance. When I apply a Magic Bullet film effect to a video clip, set the preview monitor to 25% size, and force the preview quality to draft or leave it on auto, it still plays back quite slow and choppy. Eventually it catches up and renders to memory most of the frames and plays back smoother, but in Vegas it plays back smooth and real-time right from the start.

I have noticed that the preview window in Premiere, even when at 25% and draft quality, still is not pixelated like my small draft window in Vegas. As if Premiere just isn't going low-resolution enough to render in real time.

Anyone have any tips?

Aahh, my mouth still waters at the amount of useful info contained in these forums.
I wonder if anyone can help me with the following;
I capture audio (using my PD170 and stock mic) to Premiere (most recent version, or next to) and can interact with the audio fine.

However, when I import the file in Audition, it plays it as some clicking shrieking, white distorted noise..

Now I know that I have done this once. But now cannot seem to find what might have changed. I simply cannot play music in Audition, that I have captured from Premiere.
Why is this so!?

PPro always close all clips in the Soure Window when you close a project. So there is nothing wrong with your computer or PPro.

There is a 16 X 9 template in the title designer. Works great!

i think that template is a little wider that 1.85:1(16:9) but not quite 2.35:1

oh yah..no problem :d also there are settings in that optionn for soem blur i think if there arent any ..u ca alwasy throw some blur on top and it looks like magic. :D

(1) Is there a way, within Premiere, to specify which folder(s) the program looks in for VSTs? Premiere seems to decide this for itself upon install, whereas I'd like to direct it to a different folder.

(2) Similarly, is there a way to de-activate VSTs and VSTis that are never going to be used?

Audio DAWs routinely provide these features, so I'm wondering if I'm simply looking in the wrong menus in premiere?

I recently purchased a sony Fx1, and the video I've shot with it always looks awful when it leaves premiere (I've been using Dv, not HDV). I've tried export to dvd, which looked terrible. The final product looked like the rough scratch I'd previewed the video with. Then, I tried exporting to m2v files, which looked significantly better (still not as good as I imagine they should) but exported with a thick frame around the video, making the video smaller than I wanted it to be.

What is the best format to export footage to? Also, how do I fix my problem with the frame?

I have a Boss BR-532 portible digital recorder. I plan on using it to record naration, etc. I would like to connect to my PC via Optical line from the digital recorder to the Optical connector on my PC board (Intel D955XBK). I plan on using Adobe Audition to capture the digital audio. I have the optical connector.

I have no idea how to connect and interface this device with Adobe Audition. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Does anyone have some experience with exporting H.264 encoded QT files from Adobe Media Encoder? I'm having a particular problem with trying to squeeze my files down to a decent size.

I've changed the settings to encode at 300 mbps, 640 x 480, 29.97 fps. It's also set to encode with 24 bit color depth. Other than that every thing seems quite typical, except when it's done exporting I get a rather large 100MB file for something that's about 4 minutes an 15 seconds.

On FCP (Mac), I've done the same settings with the same video file and I get a 11MB file. Certainly, I'm doing something wrong. What is it?

Second question, does anyone have a favorite audio encoder for their H.264 files? I've been using Q-design in my tests and I'm not pleased with it.

I too see the Auto Color flicker in some rendered scenes on Premiere Pro 1.5. The scenes are evenly & constantly lit with a softbox. Is there a fix or workaround available?

Alternatively, which is the best method/tool in Ppro to reduce color saturation by a small measured amount?

the export to dvd and the export to m2v should both be mpeg2, but there are probably encoding differences in bitrate, 1-pass vs. 2-pass, frame size, etc... get a handle on exactly what you are encoding the mpeg at, and you'll be able to improve your product drastically.

I've changed the settings to encode at 300 mbps
For some reason the bitrate slider in Adobe Media Encoder is totally inaccurate when encoding to QuickTime files. If I remember correctly I believe it has to be set to around 25 Kb/s to get an approximately 350 Kb/s file.

I have found that while I am capturing if I click on the timeline between captures to do something, as apposed to clicking on edit, the capture screen goes black.
I can still capture by viewing the lcd on the camera but I have nothing on the capture monitor. I have logged out and come back on and still no go. I have turned the camera off and back on no go.

If there is an easy solution I would love to know!! You would think I would remember to not go to the time line, but that doesn't really solve the problem.

First, If you recorded on a stereo track with a standard mono mic, you would probably have just one side. You could maybe record to a mono track and that would play on both speakers I think. If you did record to a stereo track, maybe just copy it and paste to a new mono track.

Second, may just duplicate and paste inside the stereo track.

I didn't open up my Premiere, so if this does not work let me know and I will.

Sometimes an uninstall followed by a new install will cure strange behavior in Premiere Pro.

Can you export Quicktime movies directly from Premiere?[you might need Quicktime Pro]

If so, I would imagine you can export just the audio portion as a AIFF file-WAV file and then encode to MP3.

Apple's Itunes does audio encoding/compression with whatever format you want.

I use windows XP would I look for the video driver at a micro soft site? I have never really had the problem stay as long as it has. Usually just a shut down and reboot and all was well??

You can't export directly to MP3 from within Premiere Pro. You'll have to follow John's suggestion and export to another audio format first before converting to MP3.

Seriously, though, I know about this effect because I have had to use it myself. Audio recorded with mono lav mics kind of require it.

I had this problem once on my old computer but it was a funky audio filter installed with some video codecs. This time, I have NO clue. Everything worked great but last week Premiere stopped being able to capture. Windows Movie Maker works so I know it is not a hardware issue. NONE of my decks or cameras will work, NONE! Adobe has no answer. I have re-installed the program AND Windows but no change. As recommended I uninstalled MyDVD, still nada!

Using another program to capture is not an option. Any ideas? This is pretty flippin silly! I can output to tape fine just cant control ANY DV device which means I cannot capture or batch capture.

If your project settings are set to widescreen, you should be able to import a 4:3 clip and have it take up the full width.

No I'd go to the video card manufacturer sight. Nvidia or ATI or who ever. Like I said, it fixed it immediately. Let me know how it goes.

Under the Effects tab, twirl down Video Effects, twirl down Image Control and double-click or drag'n'drop Color Balance (HLS) to the clip or monitor window. In the monitor window, select the Effects tab, twirl down the Color Balance (HLS) filter, twirl down Saturation, and either slide the bar or enter a value directly to change saturation.

I already went thru all those... I ended up restoring to a month ago, then doing a Windows Repair installation, then reinstalling PP... WHAT A PAIN.. but it is working.

I've just started experimenting using the 'Color Corrector' effect to reduce saturation. That effect does not have the flicker problem of 'auto color'.

I'll also try the method that you propose.

flicker using auto correction settings is a common problem for premiere users. there should be no flicker if you use the manual adjustments tho. that's the only "workaround" i'm aware of. good luck.

Well, the problem I'm experiencing is rather consistent. On short audio clips, say 1-2 minutes, the audio files update after tweaking in Audition (using edit original after render and replace). But when I work on a 20min clip in audition and do the save as, and go back into Premiere, I can see that the file is conforming, but after it is done, the audio clip is still the same. I waited for 5 minutes but still the old unmodified clip. If I save the project and close it and reopen it, the new audio file is present. Any ideas?

I am curious - In using Premiere, is it possible to select a section of a frame and add an effect just to the selected region (i.e. blown out sky in otherwise well exposed scene)? Or is this only done in After Effects?
