Is there something like an XL-1 owners club in Europe? Who took that initiative in the States? Was it Canon or the owners? Thanks.

As far as I know there is no owners club here in Europe. Which
is a bad thing in my opinion. Good question about who started
it. Anyone knows?

There's been a lot of interest in recent posts about an XL1 users club for the rest of the world. Maybe its time for a formal petition to be created and sent to canon?

Who would be the right person(s) to do that? How was the US club formed? Anyone?

There's been some talk in another thread about getting one started for the UK, perhaps it can be approached to include all of Europa?

A great idea Chris, and one that will probably have more of a chance to succeed.

When do we start?

I suggest we start a petition at http://www.petitiononline.com/.
Then we can spread the word here on the forum, and perhaps
even on the site Chris? See how many signature we can get.
That can then be send to Canon HQ.

I suggest that Chris starts this petition (if he agrees ofcourse)
to put a little bit extra weight on it (as Canon definitely knows
the name Chris Hurd :) ....

what does everyone think of this? Chris?

I second that.

I always thought the US XL-1 club was a Canon creation. Since this looks like a such a good idea, does anyone know why Canon did not extend this to the rest of the world (language, laws, politics)?

It may be due to the fact that Europe consists of many ditributors, one for each country and that it will be difficult to get them to cooperate beyond their borders. Try and get warranty in Spain if you bought your XL-1 in Holland... for example.
But on the other hand it is a good reason for the customers to have a European service, provided of course that it works well. They can even use their regional service centres for the club.
Does Canon club USA also support PAL cameras (just curious, not thinking about sending mine over..)
I know Canon in Europe has a pro-service for photography gear, with replacement gear in case of breakdowns etc., perhaps that they can extend that to XL-1 type of video cameras and optics...

I will most definatly sign the petition. Here's wishing us good luck in our endeavors.
