I know this a crazy question but I'm going to ask anyway. Charles, how do you pronounce your last name?

Besides being a great source of info, you actually work on stuff that the rest of us see on TV or the big screen. I'd like to be able to say, "hey, I've traded posts with that guy" but don't want to butcher your name.

Not crazy at all, Robert, I've dealt with this one my whole life!

It's pronounced "papp-ert", with a short "a".

Usually it goes like this on the phone when I have to give my name:

"It's Charles Papert"

"Patrick...?"

etc etc.

The name has some sort of French ancestry, we're not really sure. f you Google it, you mostly get links for my fascinating uncle Seymour, who is a renowned expert in computers and education.

Ahh Charles, if it's french then is the 't' silent, and the 'r' more like 'air' as in Papair? :)

Mais ou, at some point I guess it was. I've had a few people over the years crow (phonetically) "Sharl Papair!". My Dad's side of the family is not exceptionally up on the ancestry thing.

I've had more than a few nicknames over the years. These days it's predominantly "Chas" if other than my full name. On "Mr. 3000", the director went by Charles so I was forced to go into nickname mode; someone decided they liked the monosyllabic forcefulness of "Pap" so that become my nome de plume for a couple of months.

Jeez, enough about me! Next I'll be blah-blahing about what I had for breakfast...
