View Full Version : DVPC Recorder/Other programmes
Kevin Gilvear October 20th, 2004, 02:09 PM Hi again.
Is DVPC recorder only used for recording from the cam to the pc or is it used for turning recorded material into AVI files etc?
The leaflet I got doesn't say much about it.
If not then what are good programmes for transfering over tape?
Did that make sense?
Thanks
Rob Lohman October 21st, 2004, 01:35 AM What you say is the same thing. Recording from camera to the
pc results in an AVI file with most "capture" programs. Any NLE
comes with a capture program as well.
Carlos Porras October 28th, 2004, 06:17 PM Do you know where to go to download the DVPC recorder ?
The instructions only stated that it is a owners club perk, but all I can find when I go to the owners club section of the XL2 website is the registration form.
I did register but it did not take me anywhere.

Chris Hurd October 29th, 2004, 08:19 AM Thanks, Kenneth. The link works for me. It's possible that the reason why the software isn't available yet from Canon USA is because they're waiting for Windows certfication from MicroSoft. Canon Canada doesn't seem to be worried about this, though.
Carlos Porras October 29th, 2004, 08:46 AM Thanks Kenneth!
Kenneth Irvine October 29th, 2004, 10:06 AM No problem at all.
Kevin Gilvear October 29th, 2004, 11:00 AM if i'm going to be using sony vegas for editing then there is no real need for me to get this is there? i don't plan on recording straight to my hard drive
Chris Hurd October 29th, 2004, 11:14 AM If you don't plan on recording directly to your hard dtive, then no, there's no reason to download this program. Because all it does is to manage recording directly to your hard drive.
Kevin Gilvear October 29th, 2004, 11:22 AM I suppose I could give it a test though. That link is for Canada right? Would the software from there work on a pc over here in England and be compatible with a PAL Cam?
Yi Fong Yu October 29th, 2004, 10:54 PM if you have vegas couldn't you directly record to HD anyway? when i used XL1s when firewire connected and cam was not "off" then vegas can record.
Chris Hurd October 29th, 2004, 11:02 PM Yes, if you have Vegas or any other NLE program.
But DV-PC Recorder has an advantage: its simplicity. It's a very basic, very plain interface that allows one-touch recording. Out in the field my attention is already divided with everything regarding shooting. I don't want to have to manage an NLE as a capture device as well. DV-PC Recorder is one mouse click, very expediant to actual field recording.
Of course if you prefer to go through an NLE you can sure do that, but it wouldn't be as quick, easy and simple.
Thijo van Beek July 10th, 2007, 02:47 AM Hi there, I have a question about DVPC to.
It only seems to capture as long as I'm connected by firewire to thye tape ánd the harddisk.
When I connect my XL, DVPC tells me to go to a recording-mode.
But what do you do to capture the tape to the harddisk?
I don't wanna film the church in front of my house all the time...
I can't find a setting so I can capture the tape.
There is not so much of setting-possabilities on DVPC, as far as I can see.
I need DVPC to capture the audio on ch 3, the editingprogram I'm using does not support that.
