Hey, anyone out there have any good sites/books/resources that talk about computer effects and how they are used in video and motion pictures. I am looking to learn about this aspect of production for use in my next couple of projects.

I don't do much of that type of work. After Effects does what I need, but lets give this a bump to the top and see if anyone else has any thoughts.

www.vfxpro.com has a few good articles. www.flay.com is a great resource, if you forget the very technical stuff in the center and check the articles on the side. But its hard to find a good "how do i do special fx" place really. My hottest tip is to just ask here. Im sure there are more Visual Effects people here than me. (Yes, although i now mostly do behind camera work, i have screen credits for doing a fully CGI baby sequence in a UK Indie film called Designer Baby (I wonder if anyone seen that one :) )

Have fun,

also check out www.fxguide.com, which mostly covers discreets line of visual effects tools, but also presents concepts that may be transferrable to other products and platforms. certainly worth a look though.

There are also some good books (from ILM for example --> very
expensive though) on the subject. I also had a short subscription
to Cinefex magazine which describes the effects for that latest
and greatest movies. This magazine comes in a book form and
actually is more of a book than a magazine and has very good
quality pictures. If your interested I can send you a couple of
scans as samples. The magazine can be found at www.cinefex.com
