if anyone has any anwers, i will feel greatly indebted.

1. does the canon xh a1s 24f setting actually record onto minidv tape as 60i? or does the 24f footage get converted into 60i when i capture into fcp via my firewire?

2. is there a pulldown involved? or is pulldown removed? do i have to reinsert the pulldown when i xport back to dvd?

essentially, i shot using my a1 with the 24f setting, i have captured 8 hours into my fcp using the 1080p24 setting. i am planning to export the project to dvd but i think it has to be in 1080i format.

3. is the 1080p24 setting in fcp progressive or interlaced?

so confused.

If you're shooting HDV, the footage is 24 frames per second, progressive, no pulldown. Make sure your FCP Easy Setup is HDV1080P24. Make sure your sequence setting matches (just click load sequence preset and it should come up right, which is HD (1440x1080) (16:9). Make sure editing timebase is 23.98. If when you drop a clip into the sequence, it wants to render, then your sequence settings aren't correct.

There've been zillions of posts about this topic, some accurate, some not. If you shoot HDV at 24F and capture properly, you will have 24 discrete frames per second, non interlaced. When you export to a QT or whatever, there's no need to click the deinterlace box because it's not interlaced.

If you're shooting non-HD with the camera, there may be a pulldown involved; I'm not sure about that.
