Mystery: Japanese web hits swamp HDV Demo reel

Hi Guys,

I just revised our web site and demo reel. We put sample clips from our
HDV Video Press Kit for singer Brandy Rich. This video was shot and edited on HDV
format. ( http://www.highlydef.com )

There is a very strange thing happening:

The last 3 weeks we have received 200 to 400 hits/week from Japanese web servers
like www.kakaku.jp, a consumer products price comparison site.

I wonder why? Is there very little content produced with HDV cameras?

Do the posters on http://www.kakaku.com/info/profile_site_e.htm find singer Brandy Rich attractive.

We only mentioned the reel one time here. Then we had so many downloads we had to take down all the Windows Media HD
files because the bandwidth cost was getting crazy.
Any one have any ideas?

Hey that is what internet is intended for.
Basically if you put something interesting on the web, you could get billion of hit per month.
Actually, i think it is because your are representing a professional use of the cam with a nice content. so far i have seen lots of clip advertised on HDV, but most are poor low resolution or just uninteresting, while yours are not.
put them on emule, so they will spread on internet but not at your cost.

I like sharing the content, but the Windows media HD files are huge.

Currently we just have the regular Windows media files up.

I was just curious why Brandy rich was so popular in Japan?

on emule, you can find HD movie (4gig big) and others illegal softwares like DVD games for the playstation (several gig each) and believe me , i am sure that nobody is afraid of the size.
The interest of such system is that each downloader becomes a server (source) for the others so while you could be looking for half of a file , you can be a provider for the other half of it.
Popular files have hundred of sources.
As all the internet, emule is made at 90% of porn, illegal mp3 and hacked games, but it still a nice tool to share big files.

C'mon Ed!!!! I'm not Japanese, but I can definitely see why a 17yr old singer struttin' her stuff (not that any of the people I've shown your clip to noticed her well developed stuff that much...NOT!!!) in a very professional, quality piece of HD WMV9 would have such appeal......

I'm sure it wouldn't harm her career to let the clip get a wide Asian distribution - even if there's no royalties as yet. A possible tour to Japan might just do her the world of good if the clip is getting such attention.

From my perspective, you've just proven the true value of the HD10. HDV is not about indie film production for future transfer to 35mm film, but massive exposure across the net that can be followed up with targeted DVD or FTA distribution. Apart from the cost of the HD10, how much has it cost you to get your product exposed to foreigners...most of whom would never have heard of Brandy Rich otherwise?

I applaud what you've done, and hope that you don't see the radical number of downloads of your clips as a scary thing. It may be more that you're pioneering a whole new distribution process that the HD10 & HDV were made for.

Hmmm. Perhaps we could think about using the web for some sort of delivery strategy, and get some kind of PR advantage for her.

How can I locate this emule site?
I would love to keep the large Win Media 9 HD files available.

first you need to install the software in a machine (with internet access),
www.emule-project.net
then you need a server list to start the process.
if possible a fresh one http://ed2k.2x4u.de/index.html
then you put the files you want to share in the folder set up in emule (usually the "incoming" folder).
if it is a new file, you need to generate the hash code that uniquely identify the file on the network.
then you can publish somewhere on a web page the info (direct link or just some keyword that allows to make a search on emule).

suggested keyword : HDV Brandy Rich Clip movie music JVC HD10i if you can provide me a file , i will be happy to share it on my 2 pcs, so you got some "seeds" already.

Hmmm. I have a few of Brandy's complete songs in studio performance. Maybe I'll take 1 or two favorites and edit with the huge stock of B-roll where she's dancing in different settings.

It would be great practice for editing music videos. Got to put out some PR stuff first tomorrow. Maybe I'll have time later this week.
