Lets say i shoot with my XL1s (30fps), and then put it in premiere and edit it blah blah blah.

then i export it as an uncompressed full quality AVI file, and set the frames per second to "24" will it convert for me?

then i bring it back into premiere (that new file), and export THAT to tape. will i be seeing 24p...?

and also, im missing some basic info

16mm film = __?__ fps

8mm film = __?__ fps

is there another _?_ mm that i'm not aware of?

If you shoot 30fps XL1 footage and export it at 24fps, you'll see a mushed-together, jittery, motion-compromised piece of footage.

Nothing like 24P.

However, you could shoot interlaced on the XL1 and then run it through a program like DVFilm Maker, which will convert it to being a nice simulation of 24P.

16mm is typically shot at 24fps.

8mm film was typically shot at 16 to 18 fps.

Super 8mm film was often shot at 18fps for silent shoots, and 24fps for sound shoots.

Other MM's include 35mm, of course, and 70mm, and IMAX.

Obscure MM's include 9.5mm... there have been many different frame sizes over the years. But the ones that found widespread acceptance are 8mm/Super 8mm, 16mm/Super16mm, and 35mm.

As Barry indicated exporting in 24 fps will get you 24 fps. It will
probably look bad indeed. You can't export 24 fps to tape since
DV and analog out do not support this.
