View Full Version : Nikon D2X's are coming . . . Jeff Donald September 16th, 2004, 07:52 AM Nikon has announced (http://www.nikonusa.com/template.php?cat=1&grp=2&productNr=D2X) the D2X, a 12.4 MP dSLR. John DeLuca September 16th, 2004, 10:46 AM Ive been waiting for the D2X for awhile now. Im hoping it will retire my medium format! Lets hope it doesnt carry a price tag like the 1DS which price hasnt dropped much, if any, since its release date. John Jeff Donald September 16th, 2004, 11:04 AM Its rumored the street price will be over $5000. Alex Ratson September 16th, 2004, 01:51 PM Also, the F6 has bean announced as well, which is replacing both the F5 and F100. The D2X is supposed to be $4000Us when it first hits stores. Don Parrish September 16th, 2004, 01:54 PM The slinging of the first sword draws blood, who is brave enough and strong enough to strike next ??? Jeff Donald September 16th, 2004, 02:05 PM Nikon hasn't announced pricing, but several sites (Rob Galbraith, DP Review) are reporting a $5000 plus street price when it ships after the first of the year. Alex Ratson September 16th, 2004, 02:13 PM My source is right below Nikon it self. I have known these specs since yesterday morning. Jeff Donald September 16th, 2004, 02:36 PM If that's correct, that'll be great news for Nikon shooters. Bernard Diaz September 16th, 2004, 06:12 PM Those Nikon shooters will have to anxiously await for another 4 months before they start shipping these puppies. At least thats what I read. Jeff Donald September 16th, 2004, 06:39 PM Yes, Nikon is only saying delivery will be after the first of the year. John DeLuca September 16th, 2004, 07:44 PM Jeff, I read the D2X is NOT a full frame sensor. Also, im not a fan of CMOS sensors :( John Jeff Donald September 16th, 2004, 07:57 PM Nikon is maintaining the 1.5x crop factor with the new D2x. Nikon refers to it as the DX sensor. In order to cram 12+ million pixels into that small of a space, Nikon had to drastically reduce the pixel size. Smaller pixels mean higher noise levels and is rumored to be the reason the camera only has 800 ISO. The DX sensor is indeed a CMOS chip and this is Nikons first foray into this area. It wouldn't surprise me to see a number of firmware upgrades for this camera as Nikon attempts to deal with the idiosyncrasies of a CMOS chip for the first time. Alex Ratson September 16th, 2004, 08:27 PM Via the custom settings menu it is possible to boost the ISO up to an equivalent of 3200. John DeLuca January 4th, 2005, 11:28 PM Anyone hear about shipping dates yet? Alex Ratson January 4th, 2005, 11:59 PM It is due to be available February 25th of 2005 with a MSRP of $4995US. The expected street price will vary although should be in the ball park of $3900US. Unless you have pre ordered the camera do not to expect to have one for a few months after the release date. Hope This Helps, Alex Yang Wen January 10th, 2005, 12:42 PM Who cares about resolution? They need to work on improving the dynamic range of digital sensors! Alex Ratson January 10th, 2005, 04:43 PM I agree that resolution is not the only thing that needs to be improved although going with a 12mp sensor was needed. Also who’s to say they have not increased the dynamic range in the D2X? I have a slide film background so to me the dynamic range is not to big an issue (Velvia has much less range) although if they through in a mode that gives you the option of having more like what Fuji did in the S3 it a be even a bigger reason for many to buy. John DeLuca January 14th, 2005, 12:30 PM If you know how to shoot/process your digital files, you will have more dynamic range than film. John DeLuca March 15th, 2005, 12:41 PM http://www.imaging-resource.com/PRODS/D2X/D2XA.HTM Interesting article John John DeLuca April 11th, 2005, 06:20 PM I just shot my first wedding with the D2X! The files look amazing. Noise issues are non existent, the images are VERY clean. I've saved alot of back end work by getting this camera. The color balance is dead on, or very close in most cases. With the D70, I would estimate I had atleast 50% more backend work due to the shifting color balance. Its to bad the drying times are not acceptable for wedding photography with the epson pro 4000(takes a month before you can put it behind glass!) a cotton rag 16X20 shot with prime glass will take your breath away. I highly recommend this camera to wedding photographers using online labs to save money. Your backend work will be cut in half. John |
