Will a new mounting kit for the Mini35 be available for the Sony HDR-FX1?
View Full Version : what's the P+S take on the Sony HDR-FX1 John Jay September 7th, 2004, 01:52 PM Will a new mounting kit for the Mini35 be available for the Sony HDR-FX1? Rob Lohman September 8th, 2004, 01:16 AM John: I think this is too early to talk about it. The camera has just been announced and it hasn't even been to any tradeshow yet. If I'm not mistaken it isn't available for JVC's came either. Barry Green September 8th, 2004, 10:13 AM I don't think it's officially available for the JVC. We did strap a 400-series onto the JVC using the PD150 mounting kit, some step-up rings and some shims to get the camera to the proper height, and it did work just fine, so adapting to the JVC would seem an eminently do-able task. Because of that, I'd expect they could also adapt the Sony to use it. John Jay September 8th, 2004, 10:28 AM Barry thats interesting, I wonder if the extra resolution may show up the grain and somewhat reduce the exposure range? Barry Green September 8th, 2004, 12:17 PM They make a "pro" version of the mini35, called, appropriately enough, the Pro35. We had a CineAlta/Pro35 combo, and the JVC/mini35 adaptation. On the SD monitor, they looked about the same, grain-wise. According to Jay Nemeth, who owns the HD1 and took the footage home to screen on his HD monitor, they were quite comparable, so I don't think there should be too much worry about using the mini35 with the new Sony HDV camera. Jesse Bekas September 9th, 2004, 11:31 AM The Sony is at a higher resolution (even though interpolated) than the JVC, so you may have to try it out and see before guessing that it won't show much grain. |
