Yeah, this is a thread about food.

Seriously.

When I'm editing, I get the munchies non-stop. Just wondering if anyone else is like this, and more importantly, what are your top food choices?
Currently, I'm trying to tone up a bit, so I've been sticking to fruit, vegetable sticks (carrots, celery) and dried pumpkin seeds (although I've been known to put back a box of Slim Jims in an afternoon.)

Anyone have any other healthy suggestions?

1.- Sunflower seeds.

It´s not that I get the munchies, but I get this junkie need to smoke when in front of a PC, and these are pretty good to keep that urge down.

There is a side effect though, they keep my hands busy for too long.

2.- Then I drink a LOT of water.

3.- And then sometimes long stripes of red liquorish.

P.S. I wish they sold Slim Jims around here... those I miss a lot.

You are what you eat. And so much so that one guy decided that the best way to edit and get in shape is to not sit. You might want to try it. Get yourself a nice old drafting board, mount your 2 monitors up high and dance your ass off to the beat matched timeline markers.

I suppose you could cheat by using a bar stool if you get too tired. But then you might reach for a cold bee.......

Actually, I like the idea of standing up and editing, I wonder how much extra calories standing burns over sitting.
Then again, you could mount your monitors on the front of an excercise bike, and log some miles while you logges some footage....

Guinness. Lots of Guinness. Oh and Cheez-it crackers too.

Animal crackers! You can't eat just one, they're low in fat and calories, and they're just plain fun to eat.

I like to bite the legs off them first. And if the editing's going poorly, the head comes off first.

The first accessory I got for my NLE was a small fridge. Then it was off to CostCo to load up. Nothing like a little Ben & Jerry's handy to get the creative juices flowing.

Well that and few shots of Tequila and/or Sake ...

Yeah a little fridge to keep the beers cold. I am better on cutting to the music after a couple of bottles.

Oh wait you wanted healthy suggestions.

My favorites on the healthy side are grapes and bananas. Grapes cuz you can keep picking at them, and bananas when you need more substance.

For drinks, I do believe Sake is healthier than Tequila, but I'll have to check.

Guiness. Perfect.

It's funny. As much as I enjoy the brew, I find myself making excuses not to indulge when I am working a corporate retreat or event when the suds are flowing heavily. I explain that a few beers do help the handheld shots by buffering camera movement but that the unwanted focus blur is just not worth the trade-off.

In the edit bay, Irish beers rock.

Walter Murch stands IIRC and the picture I saw of him, he was a skinny bugger.

What do I eat? Having a bad day where I have to edit but don't want to - Jack Daniels (Obviously not paying gigs here ;) )

But usually I forget to eat - not good - then if I find that I'm really hungry - toast!

I really like the Corona and Ben & Jerry's suggestion. Hmmm.....

Warsteiner beer (almost any German beer) and New Orleans home style peanuts from the local wine and beer store. Strong coffee if it's in the morning. But the Warsteiner makes me more creative, really, it does. Any Germans want to trade me beer for free editing time? huh? please? Maybe the real German version of Becks?

When behind the NLE I need an Ice Cold Frappachino with double shots. Of course then I have to chain smoke and cant smoke inside so I have to get up and go outside :P

I havent eaten while editing yet.. since im new to all of this, but when i do start getting the editing munchies, im sure it will be for this:

Goldfish
A pickle
and a coke

hours go by....

Double chocolate almond icecream
water

hours go by....

Left over cold Manicottii (you know, meat & cheese in a pasta wrap drenched in a good, rich spaghettii sauce)
Cold glass of milk

What's the world coming too???? Are there no Germans on this board? I'm offering to edit just about any material for beer, as long as it's German beer. I'll pack up my gear and go over there even. Then I could have it any time I wanted. What do I have to do?

Maybe I should offer this to the Dutch? Is Dutch beer better than German? Puuuleeeeeease. Sam Adams cheapend his formula and I'm getting desperate.

Maybe the Belgians, I've had Belgian triple bock from one of those monasteries. It was great. But what sort of editing would Belgian monks need?

Hee hee ... truth is, the bulk of the 5 percent swill we export to the USA is mega crap.

Best beer in Ontario is brewed in a small town an hour north of Toronto. Creemore. So fresh and unpasturized, you have to consume it within a few weeks of purchase. But sadly, only in Canada.

Hey, you gotta try some of the New England microbrews. It's so thick it's like motor oil, so in the winter it's great for outdoor shoots. Keeps you warm. :)

i'd love to munch while sitting at workstation the problem is the crumbs get inside the keyboard and you grease up the mouse... then the cockroaches attack... so i usually eat @kitchen =).

Okay, since the Germans are ignoring me. But Canada is closer, and if what I'm reading is right, then I'll have to go to Canada and get some good beer.

I've tried many of the microbreweries in the USA. Crap, crap and more crap. Mostly just hyped up stuff. The whole micro brewery phenom was made famous by Sam Adams. Others jumped on the band wagon.

Oh man,, Canadian Vodka and beer. Next I'll be mispronouncing words like out. So, from the DC area, best way to drive to Canada and get some great beer. Anyone?

Thats what I miss about
Germany, lots of great local breweries in all the small villages around the country. You didn't have to drink the major brands if you didn't want to.

Hmmm, flight to Toronto, drive to Creemore. Bring laptop, full mobile kit for storage and editing....drink good beer....make excellent feature. Happy camper.
Are there affordable hotels and wireless access near Creemore?
From what I've heard, Toronto is very expensive.
