setting up an EOS 750 (nice easy camera) for my nephew to take on his vacation, The dial on top right is battery check, program mode, L ????, depth of field and then timer, anyone remember what the red "L" is for, been ten years since I had my 650?
Thanks a whole bunch

On my wife's EOS Rebel X, that red "L" stands for Locked, which is the full power-off setting. Be sure to switch to the red L whenever you're powering down the camera for any length of time, otherwise the batteries will completely run down. Can't tell you how many batteries I've had to buy because we forgot to power the camera down at the end of the day.
