hi all,

new user, first post. i'm a complete newbie from munich/germany. i don't own a DV camera myself yet, but plan to buy one later this year.

so far i've shot a short with a friend on his PD-100 that is still in the editing phase (didn't realize how long this can take). i have a day job in the software industry but would love to somehow make a living in the film sector. future plans include doing more shorts, possibly a feature, and finding a way to generate money - industry films, weddings, whatever. no idea if i'll ever get there...

i almost bought a DVX-100A but then heard of the XL2 coming out soon. so now i'll wait for a few proper tests/reviews before making up my mind - after all, it's a lot of money to be spent!

cheers,
-andreas

Welcome aboard Andreas, it's good to have you with us! It
certainly is a lot of money and I'm glad you take the time to
thoroughly research the subject before laying down that much
cash. If you can do find a store in your area that has both so
you can see them, hold them and if possible shoot a bit of tape
with both (bring DV tape along!).

The two camera's have a very very different form factor which
is important to feel (especially the Canon XL series). A recording
to tape can be handy so you can look at it at home if you have
a tape deck or DV camera or can borrow one from a friend.

Good luck on your purchase and projects!
