One of my Sony VX2000s started dropping frames and the audio started cutting out. I took it to a local technician and he said that the pinch rollers needed replaced. To make a long story short after months of picking my camera up and taking it back to this guy unsatisisfied it is worse now than the first day I brought it in. I am tired of messing with this guy who obviously does not know what he is doing. The camera still drops frames and the audio still cuts out, and add to that now any tape recorded in this particular camera can not be played sucessfully in my other VX2000s. It seems to me that the alignment is off.
1. Is this a common problem? Any suggestions?
2. Does anybody have a good technician they can reccomend? I am willing to send the camera out if I know the person knows what they are doing.

Look in your manual and send it to a Sony Authorized Service Center.

I'm sure Mike Rehmus, this forum's moderator, will heartily agree with Jeff Donald and myself when we say that you must send the camcorder only to the Sony Factory Service Center, which I believe is located in the Atlanta area.

There are only two service centers I trust to work on my Sony gear. Sony is one of them, Armatos is the other.

But if you need heads (and I think you do) Sony is the place to go. If the transport is really worn, you will get a new one instead of bits and pieces. The 2000 still falls under their flat-fee repair policy.

Unfortunately, one of the big differences between the PD150/170 and the VX2000/2100, is the level of service. The Atlanta service center, which offers turnarounds measured in days, is only for Sony pro gear. The VX series have to go to the Sony Consumer repair and that is measured in weeks.

If you need it much quicker, Armatos is usually the place to go. But they can be more expensive. They quoted me $1700 to spruce up a VX-1000.
