I could be wrong but I believe the HDMI on the HV30 is only out, not in.

I don't know if Kenneth is right or not, but you might want to check the manual. I chime in for another reason. The HDMI spec contains copy protection as part of the interface. I read something about it way back when but I cannot remember any of the specifics. Other conjectured that it could prevent both unauthorized and authorized with equal effectiveness. Playback to a screen? It's all okey dokey. You might want to check the documentation for you hardware to see if there are any parameters that need jiggling.

One thing is for sure: If David is trying to record HDCP content into the camera via HDMI it won't work. I learned that the hard way trying to record footage off my cable box for the actual company that owned the channel.

IF you would like to record footage from an HDCP source, I would suggest using the Happague HD PVR, it will record via component and the footage looks great!

Is this to get the slight extra hdmi resolution.

Mainly to bypass the HDV compression I think.

I have successfully captured from an HV20 via an Intensity Pro using the supplied Blackmagic Magic Media Express but you need to make sure you have the latest software version.

If you have the BM pro version you can hook up your camera to the input of the BM card
and hook up the output of the BM card to a TV or projector and you can turn your camera
on and you should see the output of the camera on the TV or projector...

Also make sure on the BM software that you change the settings to what is coming out of
the camera...

after you get all of that worked out and you see the output on the TV correctly then you
should be able to start the capture....
