View Full Version : Same project, going between 2 PCs?

Hi all,

I bought a video-editing laptop so that I can work on PPro (CS3) projects when on the move.

So I've copied the project folder in its entirety from the desktop to the laptop. Works fine.

If i do some work though, save the project file and replace the original with it (e.g. laptop to desktop, or desktop to laptop), then it goes through all those notions of asking 'Where is the file xxx.xx'. This is easy to do, but a bit time-wasting.

Is it because the folder on the desktop is E:/FilmEdits/Project1 and on the laptop it is D:/FilmEdits/Project1 ??? In other words, do the drive letters need to be the same, to 'fool' PPro into thinking it's on the same PC???

Thanks in advance to anyone that can solve this for me!!!

Yes, I would think that would definitely cause the problem if the file path is incorrect. Have you thought about using & saving to an external harddrive?? They're fairly cheap nowadays for a terabyte of memory. Maybe can use it as a J: drive or something for both.

hiya David

thanks for the quick reply

i know alot of people do the external HDD idea, but i'm not entirely keen on it personally

ok, in the last 10 mins i've changed the 2nd drive letter to 'E' on the laptop (and also made sure the username/computernames are identical)

.... and the verdict is ....

YES!!! It worked! absolutely no problems now (touch wood!)
