Is the MA-300 Microphone Adapter compatible with the Optura Xi's advanced accessory shoe?

Can't see why it wouldn't be, unless not all "advanced accessory shoes" are created equal.

Has anyone tried it?

That's a good question Michael. Since the GL2 can use either in its hot shoe, I don't see why the XI couldn't either.

I've hear that it won't work. But that's just hearsay. For somebody who has an AAS-equpped Optura and an MA-300, try it out and let us know for sure!

I contacted Canon tech support. Here is my question to them and their response:

Question:
Hello,

I was wondering if since the DM-50 mic works on the accessory shoes of
both the Optura XI and GL2, if the MA-300 would work on the Optura XI
since it works on the GL2.

I want to be able to use xlr mics with my Optura XI.

Thanks.

Sincerely, Dave Perry

Dear Mr. Perry ,

Thank you for contacting Canon product support.

Unfortunately, we have not tested to see if what your proposing would
work and it is not listed as being a working accessory for your
camcorder.

Thank you for choosing Canon.

Sincerely,

Johnny
Product Support Representative

I'm going to see if the store I got my XI from has the MA-300 and test it out.

I've sent a message to Steve at B&H to look into this. Will post when I get a response.

I'll be in the Canon booth for the WEVA show in Vegas next week. There should be an Xi handy. Will bring an XLR mic and cable and try it out for myself. Don't get your hopes up, though! I kinda doubt it will work. But we'll see.

Tried this with Op Xi and Op 40, no go. Sorry! At least we found out.

That's a bummer but thanks for clearing it up for us.
