It's tempting to put in your request right away. I'll wait a bit, but I think I'll be one of the first to get one.

Wow, where's the B&H "Give me a better price" link??? Surely, they will discount it as they do all other products... won't they?

If there are more people like Alain out there (and I suspect there are) then why would they? It's simple supply and demand....

The only thing is I don't remember the price of the XL1 or XL1s dropping right after the camera came out. This camera will be bought by schools, individuals, businesses Etc. So the demend will defentelly be there for a while. This time I won't wait for an Ebay deal.. .but I will wait for some users feedback!

That's a ridiculous price...

It not unusual. The Canon 10d sold over list price at many retailers for several months after the first release. It's not just cameras either, autos do this every now and then when a hot model comes along. The Mini-Cooper comes to mind as well as the first Miata's and the first VW GTI's.

Yeah -- try buying a Toyota Prius at MSRP right now... isn't gonna happen.

Yeah don't be the first one to buy the new fangeled camera from B & H! I love B & H though I've ordered stuff from them and had it sent all the way here to ASIA! I'm sure in about 4-5 months the price will be creeping down. Love the Toyota Prius reference! I want one of those as a matter of fact! I'll be buying it in Australia, moving there at the end of next month.

When the XL1s came out, I bought one for less than MSRP on day one, but I can't remember where. Guess I'll have to go dig out the receipt.

How about the DV Info Net supporters? Is there any possibility of a better price through one of them?

B&H is a supporter, is it not?

Here, here!

DVXuser.com members claim they get a 'discount' with one of their sponsors (who is also one of dvinfo's sponsors) if they mention

"dvxuser"

in a hush voice when they email or call.

In the past several of the sponsor have had "special pricing" for DV Info members. More details will be available as the camera shipping date comes closer to reality

In addition to B&H, we have ZGC, Zotz Digital and Express Video Supply lined up as authorized Canon dealers who sponsor this site. I might add one or two more shortly. EVS has been known to give a break or two, but be sure to mention:

DV Info

...as your super-secret code word. And tell Rush that we want him to have a great day. Hope this helps.

I didn't know Rush Limbaugh worked at EVS!

Chris,

So there are two 'passwords' that open the vault!

I haven't seen Rush post here so I was reluctant to call him by name in my previous post.

Thanks for the tip. It might sway whom I work order from on a big purchase. Normally on small stuff, expedited shipment is more important to solve that ever-present need for instant gratification. ; )

are they making the body ONLY for sale immediately or will that come months later?

edit: oops nevermind... it's listed as body only but price is TBA! =):

Is it somewhat safe to assume that B&H will take orders for the PAL version of the XL2 sometime soon?

Jay Gladwell

Why body only without lens?

For a couple of reasons:

a) for XL1 owners who want to upgrade to an XL2 but want to use their existing XL lenses,

b) maybe for those who want a dedicated mini35 camera.

I'm sure there are other potential reasons...

i have the xl1s, i plan to sell my body (the camcorder, not my "body") for XL2's body. i'll keep the 16x since it is doing OK. i may get a 3x depending on needs.
