View Full Version : DVD to VHS deck John DeLuca July 17th, 2004, 12:21 PM I have a wedding business, and need to transfer the clients DVD to VHS. Anyone have a good recommendation as to which duel deck to get that best suits this, any help is appreciated. John Rob Lohman August 1st, 2004, 10:02 AM I don't have any suggestions for you other then you can also do this with a plain DVD player and SVHS recorder (usually higher quality, even with plain VHS) and a s-video cable inbetween. Then again if you have the clients movie in DV as well you can hook the camera up to the video recorder as well. Wayne Starick August 3rd, 2004, 09:50 PM I have a JVC SR-VS30E which works beautifully. It has firewire, Video in, S-video in, audio in, S-video out, SCART connectors, audio out. Here's a link to the specs: http://www.jvcpro-australia.com/JVCPRO/jsp/c_products_details.jsp?catID=5&prodID=29 Nick Medrano August 3rd, 2004, 10:36 PM I had a bad experience with a similar VCR such as Wayne's. Mine was a HR-DVS3U and I think it's the model below Wayne's. The problem with mine was that I could not get WINXP to recognize the VCR...and so I couldn't get firewire access. I did research and several other people had the same problems. Wayne Starick August 3rd, 2004, 10:39 PM My VS30 works quite happily with both my desktop and my laptop - both running XP Pro. Glenn Chan August 5th, 2004, 06:14 AM The JVC deck where I work confuses me as you always got to push the buttons to select the right input and direction (DV <--> analog). Also, the deck can't seem to go DV--> analog. I'd get a seperate (S)VHS deck and a patch bay instead. Ron Evans August 5th, 2004, 07:45 AM Most of the integrated consumer DVD and VHS decks will not record from DVD to the VHS deck for copyright reasons. I just tried one of the newer JVC VHS and DVD recorder decks which do in a store and was disappointed with the result being a lower quality than playing back from my Panasonic DVD player into my JVC SVHS deck with the S-video connections. I feel that seperate decks my be more usefull and lower cost as you could put a processor between if need be. JVC has just announced a Pro SVHS version the SR-MV30U that my be better than the consumer one I tried. Ron Evans Wayne Starick August 5th, 2004, 05:28 PM Hi all, I'm not sure if I need to clarify some of my earlier posts, but just in case... My deck (the JVC SR-VS30E) is miniDV tape to VHS tape. It will dub from DV tape to VHS tape and from VHS tape to DV tape. I do agree with Glenn that the controls are a little confusing until you get the hang of it. It uses the same set of transport controls for both DV tape and VHS tape. You have to select either miniDV or VHS first, but the selection is indicated by a large button lit from behind showing orange. Does that all makes sense??? Glenn Chan August 5th, 2004, 07:40 PM Sorry, I meant: I could not figure out how to dub from firewire DV to VHS. When I was printing to tape from Premiere I could not figure out how to dub onto VHS tape. |
