i mean... i just bought the xl1s in january cause of the interchangeable lens or else i would have gone with panasonic for the 24p... but now xl2 has 24p.... it's so tempting.

is there a way to swap xl1s for the xl2 and pay the diff somewhere?

Historically retailers and manufactures do not offer trade-in or upgrade plans.

This topic covered on The XL2 Skinny (http://www.dvinfo.net/canonxl2/xl2skinny.php#price) page.

FWIW: Some major retailers; e.g., like B&H, that have a used equipment department, do offer trade-ins or even will buy used gear without a trade. The prices they offer are, like car dealers, designed to make a profit on the transaction, so private sales to others will usually net a higher return to the seller. However, a vrtually new, unused XL1s should command a reasonable price on a trade.

However, mass market consumer-oriented retailers like BestBuy are not likely to not do trade-ins except perhaps as part of a manufacturers promotion.

Some dealers may offer a 7-day (give or take) satisfaction guarantee or money back without questions period. But then you will be without a camcorder until the XL2 is readily available. And you may need to turn in all things from the original package such as the blank warranty card, UPC intact on the box, etc.

thx Don for advice.

i'll get trade in price from B&H but it looks like i have to sell it to local user somewhere to make the best of the situation. i wish i had kept my original box though =).
