Hmm. No mention of frame mode or cinegamma. The "cinema mode" is also listed on the GS200 and is just 16:9.

To make an address "clickable" use the following technique:

It is really moronic of Panasonic that they don't list the features of this camera on their official web site---if the camera is going to be available next month---shouldn't the final specs be pretty much finalized?

Enhanced 16:9, cinema-gamma and 30p are the three features I want--and if the they do indeed exist on this thing--I want it bad.

It is going to be the poor man's DVX-100 for me. :-)

I've never liked Panasonic's U.S. consumer website. No detailed specs, no 360 degree views, no manuals.

It's really unbelievable how low-tech and uninformative it is.

They need to take a lesson from Canon.

Also, the battery packs listed in the supplies and accessories page are battery packs for the 953. If i'm not mistaken, the gs400's battery packs are the same as the gs100's which are incompatible with the 953.

I preferred detailed specifications over a

Manual Focus - Yes
Cinema Mode - Yes
Clueless - Yes

It seems they try and force the same template for every cam even if their features require more than a Yes or No explanation.

Maybe Panasonic spends all their money on the manufacturing process and has none left for North American web development....

I think that is just someone doing too much of a copy and paste job from the PV-GS200. Everything I have seen indicates that the GS400 will be optically stabilized, not electronically.

I wish they would get around to posting a product specifications sheet as a PDF... the sort of thing they hand out to dealers to give to customers who demand more than what the website says, if they even make a seperate slick sheet for the GS400. I think it is likely, since the 2004 product guides (in Canada) dont show the GS400, and I would think that Panasonic would produce something supplementary for store use.

If I see anything at the shop I work at that doesnt appear online, I will scan it, make it into a PDF, and post it.

The GS400 carries on the tradition of optical image stabilization for video (and Mega OIS for stills).

You can even see it mentioned here on the sticker of this GS400.

looking at the ccd size and and the spec, this cam is very close to the DVC30.. apart from 2 majot things ..

the lens and the battery..

personally i dont like the idea of having to buy different batteries when i have loads of the old MX/DVX range.. and considering this is supposed to be an upgrade.. their not making it cheap...

The DVC30 has the larger CCDs (1/4" vs 1/4.7") but also has a much less pixel count per CCD (410k vs 1070k). The low light performance will probably be like comparing a Sony PDX10 (1/4.7"/1070k) against a GL2 (1/4"/410k) which is very noticeable.

The GS400, while probably not an outstanding performer in low light, will have a higher resolution 16:9 mode compared to the DVC30. Thats a deal maker for me. I can add lights but I can't add resolution.
