9 times out of 10 when people ask about the BEST mic... there's more to it... i.e. BUDGET, camera, and purpose.

Based on the initial question I'd say the MKH60 is the best all around Sennheiser mic for film-making.

A SLIGHTLY inferior choice... kind of a stripped down mkh60... would be an MKH416.

The 60 is $1430 and the 416 is an even $1K.

Did you really mean to ask for the BEST? If so then there you go... you won't be dissappointed in either one of those.

Do not forget the hypcardoid. The Sennheiser MKH50 and the Schoeps MK41 are both used a great deal ( interior dialog)
They're both great mics, very quiet with excellent off axis rejection.

The MKH416 and 60 are somewhat similar to each other, except the 60 has a switchable low freq rolloff and mid range presence boost.
