View Full Version : Making a quick civil ceremony into something Cinematic/Filmic
Richard Wakefield August 16th, 2009, 01:35 AM Hi all,
I've been experimenting with some new colouring techniques - and in doing so, i'm hoping to make the footage look more filmic
see what you think:
Cat and Andy - Wedding Highlights, Oxford on Vimeo (http://vimeo.com/6104650) (just a very short civil ceremony)
cheers

Stephen J. Williams August 16th, 2009, 08:15 AM Mission accomplished Richard... I thought it was very well done and carried the cinematic feel throughout the video.

James Strange August 16th, 2009, 09:57 AM Very nice,
Everytime I see a clip with the glidetrack it edges me that wee bit closer to buying one!
Blake Cavett August 16th, 2009, 10:29 AM Richard, that was fantastic! I loved every last minute of it!
How many cameras were you using?
And James... GET A GLIDETRACK! Those things are awesome!
Danny O'Neill August 16th, 2009, 11:39 AM James, if your in scotland your glidetrack wont have that far to travel.
Compact SD, small, cheap, wonderful results.
Jason Robinson August 16th, 2009, 11:21 PM James, if your in scotland your glidetrack wont have that far to travel.
Compact SD, small, cheap, wonderful results.
Those of you shooting with it.... I suppose you have to have (or guy) a tripod head to mount to it right? And then you need a tripod that is able to have the head removed. Both things i lack. :-(
Any idea how much just those two parts usually run (for sticks & head able to run the GT system that is)?
Kees van Duijvenbode August 17th, 2009, 12:41 AM Very well done Richard. Do you mind sharing your new CC technique with us?
Richard Wakefield August 17th, 2009, 11:46 AM thanks all!
Blake - i always use 2 x XH-A1
James - you'll not regret it!
Jason - just a 2nd -hand £10 velbon tripod from ebay is enough to do the trick, that's all i use anyway
Kees - to sum up the process, I brought down the highlights so there were no whites, and pulled back from the lowlights/shadows so as to increase detail
cheers
Anthony J. Howe August 17th, 2009, 12:56 PM Great video;
bought the glide-track last month and used it on my last wedding, results are very good.
You coped very well with the strong bright light coming through the window during the speech and the ceremony. (Why is it whenever they do speeches, well most of the time, they stand in front of the camera with there backs to a bright lighted window?)
Loved the cinematic look to the video, well done.
Richard Wakefield August 17th, 2009, 01:26 PM hey anthony - cheers very much... oh, and which part of the UK are you from? me - surrey and oxford, at the same time! don't ask how!!
when i first started filming weddings, disgracefully not shooting in manual, i used to really got wound up by bright window backdrops...but now, it doesn't even phase me...thank god...coz it happens alot ;)

I cover North Wales.
Based in Colwyn Bay.
Sometimes I ask the Master of ceremonies to close the curtains a little, but most of the time I cope well with bright lighted windows and use colour correction to solve the very bright ones.
Bill Vincent August 17th, 2009, 08:05 PM Hi Richard,
Great work! My wife and I watched and loved what you did with the time-lapse stuff and color grading/effects. Very nice. Loved the camera work as well, the Glidetrack stuff is great. LOVED the clouds timelapse - excellent!
