Scenario: Soloist singing a theatre stage. Camera will not
move from the tripod and will be sitting right next to the
mixing board. I can go direct from the board but I am also
using a Roland VS-1680 Hard Disk recording system to
record the audio for CD. With 24 bit processing would it be better
to use the audio from the Roland and add it in the NLE?
I'm not concerned with ambient crowd sound. Can Vegas
stream the audio in or should it be recorded to ACID or Sonar
first? I was going to use optical from the Roland to the computer
via a Terratec DMX/6 fire. Thanks.

That's a loaded question, is the sound from the board going into the 1680? How are you using it...

My thought is take the direct board feed, and if they're both getting the same signal, listen to them later and decide which recorded better. My caveat is the 1680 compresses the audio to something other than a true 24bit wav, and yes, it processes at 24 bit, but the compression is lossy, if not asthetically pleasing under certain circumstances.

not putting the 1680 down, it was the first piece of personal gear I ever owned, and put out a lot of nice stuff for me. Just something to be aware of.

Agreed -

Thanks Rich, I'll run into both and see what I get - Thanks for
responding as I'm doing this tonight.
