We are about to purchase multiple PD 170's, and would like to free run multi camera set ups from a master clock or smart slate for tc sync.

Has anyone slaved timecode to a "b" camera from the "a" camera or from a smart slate? There are not any references in the PD150 operators manual that I downloaded. (anyone know where to download a PD170 manual?)

Does anyone know if there is a tc in/out connect on the camera?

Is there possibly a firewire import proceedure?

Thanks.

No way to slave timecode on 170. You can certainly use the viz display on a smart slate. I do MANY 3 and 4 cam shoots with 150/170/200 series. I just line 'em up in my NLE. Can sync with a clap board or photo flash.

Thanks for the info Craig. We need discreet starts, stops, and tape changes without drawing attention.

We may just have to sync our starts with the first dialoge in post and slide the tc if it drifts since we can't jam it.

Time code won't drift. It will be a constant offset. If you start/stop, you will need to resync at those points.

Tape is cheap these days so I simply start all cams and roll them for an hour without stopping. Sync once at the head in your NLE and you're good to go.
