I shot some footage the other day which I would like to crop to the academy format. Any of you guys here have the overlay mask for it available? Thanks in advance for your help.

Do you mean the widescreen look? I suppose it is 2.35 and not
the 1.85 that is close to 16:9 widescreen? You can calculate
both (or any other you want) at my letterbox calculator page (www.visuar.com/letterbox/calc.htm)
and also download most used masks.

But then again you might be looking for something else...

The Academy Aperture (http://www.widescreenmuseum.com/widescreen/evolution.htm) is 1.37:1 and was a standard the studios agreed upon during the 1930's. Kind of an odd size to make your video these days. It's not really much of a difference from standard 4:3 video which would be 1.33:1. Seems like it would be easy to just use your NLE to crop a few lines from the top and bottom of the image... I think the active image area should be 720x465 to acheive this.

Gentelmen, you have both given me new knowledge and a solution to my needs. It was the NTSC 2.35 template I was thinking of. I thought that this "ultra" wide screen was called the academy format. I was wrong. Thanks once again for pointing me in the right direction.
