I just got my VX2100 and was reading about PS. Then I came across "Frame Rec" and refers as cut recording. What exactly does "Frame Rec" do?

According to the manual, pressing "rec" while in frame record mode shoots 6 frames at a time.

If you shoot in progressive scan, using the frame-record feature is just a waste of tape. You very seldom will be able to click the photo button on a good frame, anyway, if it's a moving subject. You can capture still frames from running playback of progressively-shot footage, without doing the frame-record. Just click on your separate frame-capture unit, whatever that is, while playing the tape, to grab a single frame from a scene. If you need to select an exact frame, you can put it into freeze-frame mode. The tape can be moved forward or back a frame at a time by using the buttons on either side of the Stop button on the remote controler.

I'm amazed at how clear and unblurred the still-captures are that I make from moving subjects on interlaced footage with my VX2100. I put the camera into 1,000th sec. shutter and most of the stills I capture later are very sharp. For fast-flying birds, I set the shutter faster, if the light-level permits.
I thought I would have to shoot in progressive mode, which is unusable as realtime video, to be able to capture sharp stills later. But, it seems I can shoot in interlaced and use the footage for both purposes, unless the motion is extremely fast.
