View Full Version : Logging and capture software

Does anyone have any suggestions for good video capture and logging software?

I want to be able to log clips by tape, thumbnail, timecode, and keywords; being able to search by keywords, tapeID, and thumbnail. I want to be able to go back to each logging entry later and edit the keywords, add free text notes, mark as good/not good, etc.

I want to be able to capture from 1394 and analog with deck control. Automatic scene detection very useful (both DV date/time changes and scene detection ideally).

I want the software to check if the clips are on disc or not, and to provide thumbnails and meta data access even if the relevant clips are not on the hard disc - prompting for recapture when necessary.

Ideally I want the system to be open, so that I can write external scripts to query/edit the database.

I have looked at DVtools - but the search facilities aren't good. Matrox MediaTools is better, but is standalone. Edition looks promising, but it uses Pinnacle's opaque media (non)management.

What is there around that can do this? I have a small company (3 edit/compositing seats) so huge solutions aren't necessary. I am price flexible.

Julian

I have already looked as scenalyzer - but as far as I can see it doesn't offer the logging capabilities I am looking for. Am I mistaken?
