Has anybody had any luck fashioning a windscreen for a cheap Sony Handycam? (I don't have the model number, it's not mine) This model has the flat mic on the front of the camera. My father uses it while sailing and the wind noise is obnoxious. I was wondering if just taping some fake fur over it to simulate a Rycote type device would help or if one would have to get more elaborate than that. The footage is quite good at times, but the audio is quite lousy. Thanks!

Steve,
I fashioned something easy for one of my neighbors who wasn't looking for "super pro" where I took a standard foam windscreen and cut long fur, slightly trimmed out, and glued it at intervals to the windscreen. It's secured to the mic/handle of the cam with elastic hairbands. Works suprisingly well and isn't too ugly.

Rycote actually makes one and they call it the "GustBuster"

GReat! I had no idea. The contraption I made wouldn't fit on this sort of cam very easily, so I'm really glad to know of it. Thanks for posting it!
