Has anyone done any shootouts with the two different platforms?

Connect and Vegas
Ulead
FCP and Lumiere

Visual quality (I know that has more to do with the Codec than MAC and PC, but since each program is only available for one platform, I guess it is applicable.

If this hasn't been done, maybe someone could come up with a standard test using footage that is available for download so that everyone with all different setups can try it and post their results.

Just a thought. Could be useful information for someone who is starting from scratch and has not Mac or PC loyalty.

One advantage to Aspect HD is that it handles all forms of HD content.

The advantage to Lumiere HD is cost; it's less than Heuris's plug-in. (www.heuris.com) And Frederic is MUCH nicer! ;-)

Yeah, it's worth the money to have an HDV software company on our side! Frederic and company is a rare breed for editors, let alone HDV users! They literally created a product from scratch that was designed to fill a huge need by us, listened to everyone that inquired about features, kept costs low...and the guy quickly answers emails with tech support and he wished me a Happy Birthday this weekend.

LumiereHD quite simply works for cheap. We can finally put to bed the dreaded "HDV in Final Cut Pro" issue....LumiereHD is the answer.

I've seen the product demo for Cineform's Aspect HD and I must admit that I was impressed.

Cineform has spent considerable dollars on R&D and it shows.

Their wavelet approach is very clever and allows you to cut in HD resolution, great quality, in your timeline.

They have taken advantage of the PC MMX technology and the results are impressive.

Also, I met some of the Cineform team at NAB and they are a great bunch of guys!

I highly recommend that product to anyone who uses PCs.

This is all good information, but I am looking for a head to head, apples to apples comparison. Everyone uses the same 30 seconds of footage, Everyone overlays some text - "TEST" in Arial 48pt. and renders it out. Then everyone reports render times and submits a screen capture to see if there are any artifacts.

I believe an in depth cover story will be coming out in the August or Sept issue of Film & Video magazine.

I am sure they will be reviewing each product including Cineform's and Lumiere HD's.
