I have Prospect HD and love it especially First Light but I am a novice when it comes to color grading properly. I just do what looks good but I am assuming there is more to it than that.

Can anyone provide me with some tips and guidance on how to properly color grade HD video?

Also if there is a good website or book that explains it in detail, that would be worthwhile too.

Thanks,

Simon

Interesting article:

Eugenia's Rants and Thoughts Blog Archive How to Color Grade (http://eugenia.gnomefiles.org/2007/11/13/how-to-color-grade/)

Magic Bullet is impressive.

That's a big question. In super-simple terms, I would break down the answer in 2 parts. First is contrast, 2nd is color and look. Learning to read your scopes is a big part to successfully grading, especially if you can't afford a true and accurate setup with a quality calibrated monitor and proper output to it (i.e. something like a solid JVC or Panny out from a Decklink or AJA card).

This is an excellent book:

I am trying out the trial right now and it is pretty amazing.

Bumping up the saturation and using one of the look presets (Grand Sky) has helped make my washed out video much better.
