No. You do not need anything to get your camera to work. You
simply need an NLE (Non Linear Editing) application that supports
DV/firewire (like Adobe Premiere or Vegas Video). These will
recognize your camera and allow you to capture from it.

Good luck.

thank you, but i use premiere 6.0 when it's in capture mode it works and i can see images, but if i have to put my product on a dv tape i must use my camcorder......... so i play the timeline but in the wiewfinder i don;t see anythings.

Is the camera connected via firewire (DVin/out port/ IEEE1394)?

Have you set the settings in Premiere to tell it to playback DV?
This is done by going:
Project>Project settings>General> make sure editing mode is in DV Playback, and that the playback settings (click the playback settings button) are all checked.

Hope this helps,

You need the export to tape function I think in premiere to take
it back to your camera.

Your XL1s should have DV-IN enabled as well. Are you sure you
have put your XL1s in **VCR** mode??? Otherwise you will
NOT seen nor can RECORD anything that the computer sends
back!!

In PAL land the EU at one time DV-in disabled. I do not know if this applies to your cam or not, but worth a look. If so and you cannot enable it there are sites in Europe that can help you enable these. I think they are called DV widgets.

Nathan.. it is true that DV-IN is disabled on cheaper models. Due
to fines we must pay to have that enabled (they feared copyright
infringement ... doh). The Canon XL1 and XL1s have it enabled
though (I think the GL1/2 too)... basically because these are
expensive semi-prof camera's. They payed that fines and so these
camera's here have DV-IN enabled!
