Hi Niall, thanks for popping up. Maybe the UK contingent on this baord is actually larger than is being let on.
Let's hope more keep appearing - maybe one day we can hold a DVi UK convention sometime.

Cheers

Hi guys, living in Lincolnshire for nearly a year now but previously Derbyshire and originally Northern Ireland so that covers a few more regions.
There is an endless amount to learn on this board Gavin, personally it was one of the best finds I've ever made and everyone is very friendly and helpful, never any arguments....well...there may be one or two heated technical debates floating around!

Have fun!

There is quite a few people from the UK around here, and its always growing.

Glad to see more UK guys coming out the wood work!

This is really good news. If we can establish the fact there is a good sized community here in the UK too, perhaps we can all start sharing and enhancing what we do on a more solid footing.

Keep them coming in....

Thanks for throwing your names in the pot, good to make your acquaintances.

Please subscribe to this thread and keep watching, I am sure there are moe yet to join us. I am inding it terrific that there are good numbers of us this side of the water.

I wonder if any of the commercial outfits in the UK that could sponsor this site are aware of the fact we are in numbers here too?

It would be great to see some special deals for s here in the UK from a few local suppliers.

I'll get rapped on the knuckles now by someone who is...! LOL...

Dave Gosley

I'm going to put us all on a map, anyone know how to do this on a sharable google map or similar?

Cheers

OK, I'll own up. Glasgow based.

Perhaps we could share our experiences of UK dealers?

Point out the good and not so good UK dealers, very good idea, seeing as some of our kit costs a fair bit,it's worth paying the extra if you know you're gonna get good customer service, and if they're that good they'll price match anyway.

Paul.

DVi aleady has a well recommended UK based sponsor

Videogear.co.uk run by Simon Beer. You'll see the ad roll by every now and again!

OK - I've done the searches, found the 3 entries for Videogear.co.uk (this thread is one of them) but really...

As a relative newcomer to this wonderful list, I don't want to push my luck but I would have to say that having a UK sponsor is a pretty well disguised fact. As one of the other threads mentions, it is not on the list of sponsors.

So pardon me for having recently spent five and a half grand on equipment elsewhere. Is there anything else I should know, or do I just sit and watch my screen for inspiration to chance by?

*I'll answer myself - make that 9 entries for videogear in various capitalisations without the .co.uk, so you could search more carefully Colin.

How about making a sticky about VideoGear being a UK and European sponsor? I'm always telling other people to bring me solutions not problems.

Hi , yep i'm from the UK as well, based in West Wales
Very new to all this and have recently purchased a Canon XHA1

Hi Vince, hi Colin,

Thanks for becoming visible.

A sticky on UK suppliers warm to the UK based community would definitely be good.

Bit of a sod really, I just bought a load of gear from bargain-camera.com in the USA and they not only provided a stonking deal, they delivered it fast and when the on board seven in colour monitor would not work they sent me a replacement - no questions asked. That is service. I would happily buy from them again and recommend them.

I did search around and ask a few UK suppliers if they would price match - some did not even respond to the email.

Hi Dave
just had a look at their site
love the look of the steadicam system
also the 501hdv tripod system looks like a good buy - what do you reckon?

Dave Gosley
February 11th, 2008, 04:46 PM
Hi Vince
Had a look at the HDV tripod...looks good to me though I'm no expert.
Price looks good for the head, tripod and a bag thrown in...

I'd pay the extra £60 and get the 503HDV. This really belongs in the Support Your Camera forum though!

I bought a Beyer mic from Videogear before Christmas and I can't fault their customer service. It wasn't in stock (anywhere in the UK!) and I received emails and a personal phone call from Simon to keep me appraised of the situation.

Vince Hill
February 12th, 2008, 05:51 AM
Mike
yeah I had been looking at the 503hdv/525 tripod kit - is that the best one around the £250-£350 price range?
sorry if I should have posted this elsewhere

Mike Beckett
February 12th, 2008, 07:35 AM
Probably as good as it gets for the money, Vince. I had a Libec TH-950 at around £200 and it wasn't bad for the money, just a bit flimsy. The Libec LS-22 is a bit better - same head, more solid single-stage legs.

I didn't like the LS-22 head under my Sony V1, which is similar in weight and size to the Canon A1. The Vinten Pro-6 I use has the same head as the 503HDV but with better legs.

A search in the Support Your Camera forum using any of these tripod names will throw up loads of suggestions.

The problem for me is a lack of useful showrooms where you can try everything out, hence a couple of costly mistakes with other tripods. We need a B&H in the UK!

February 12th, 2008, 08:12 AM
Hi Mike

Your are right this should have appeared in the support your camera section - but it's coming to a close now.

The real deal raised in this thread is also still quite alive and as you quite rightly suggest we do need UK sponsors to step up and help us take advantage of them.

Niall Chadwick

Suppliers I have had dealings with:

www.proav.co.uk - got my camera package from them
www.prokit.co.uk - got my lighting kit from them

www.creativevideo.co.uk - good selection of kit

I have yet to find a proper Arri Lighting dealer in this country.

We really need someone like http://www.bhphotovideo.com but UK based.

Dont forget also that Tiffen have a europe office based in Oxford.

February 13th, 2008, 09:01 AM
I take it we are all beginning to understand my reason for asking everyone to shout where they are...

Nice to see the fruits of such a simple thing come to bare..
As we all have professional aspirations if not professional experience and we are using a common piece of equipment it is only fair to assume we are the logical one's to help each other out when extra bods / cams are needed.

Working well...

Bought the 503HDV/525 tripod system from Morris Photography
they have it for £369 incl VAT and delivery - cheapest I could find - say they only have two left

Hi Guys,

I am a complete newbie to the forum and video. I am based in London and have a Canon XH-A1.

Anyone from nearby?

Colin

Depending on whereabouts in London you are, I guess I used to be.

As I've now escaped, it doesn't really matter where you are, as I'm still too far away, but hey!

I cannot believe the number of Poms that have joined DVinfo since I left the UK (hmm, wonder if there's more to this than meets the eye?).

Welcome to DVinfo.

CS

PS. Whereabouts actually are you, London is one heck of a big place?

Colin Reid
February 20th, 2008, 05:14 PM
Hi Chris,

Thanks for the welcome.

I live in Hounslow. I plan on doing a lot of travel through the EU this summer with an Aussie mate who is coming over. Since I am only new to video I can currently be seen on most of my days off lurking around Richmond, anywhere along the river, or many of the touristy places in London with my A1, madly practicing my skills (or lack thereof).
