View Full Version : Finished My First Feature
Laurence Maher May 22nd, 2004, 01:58 AM The name of it is ALMOST. I shot it on 16mm, transferred it to Beta SP and edited it with the Matrox Digisuite LE. I've won an Aurora Award for Directing, a Tele Award for Production Value and a VIdgeographerr's Award for Cinematography. It's been in 2 festivals and is seeking distribution. Come see the site and a clip! Give me your input!
Thanks!

Peter Sieben May 22nd, 2004, 11:53 AM I've watched the clip and it looks like a nice black humour piece, although I can't find an understandable connection between the 2 scenes you show in it. The camerawork is quiet nice, the actors do a good job. I'd like to see more, but I'm not sure if that's possible online...

Rob Lohman May 23rd, 2004, 07:51 AM I've made a link directly to your clip since a lot of people dislike
the "searching" to check something out quickly.
Peter: I think both their friends are committing suicide. So that's
the connection between the two scenes.
Laurence:
My first remark is on the website. I really dislike it. It does not
look professional at all including the text on it. It makes a messy
impression and thus has problems navigating the site.
I thought the acting was good as well. Pretty funny. The video
was hard to watch (low contrast + dark) but that might have
been due to your compression level.
You have this under "view trailer", but I don't think this is a
"trailer" actually? Just a clip from the movie?
Allen Nash May 23rd, 2004, 02:47 PM First of all, fix up your website. It looks incredibly unprofessional and counterproductive to any distribution efforts.
Second, I didn't feel the acting was that strong, especially from the man who is fighting with the woman. I mean sure it's up to par with a student film but I don't feel it would be acceptable for a distributed film (as in, shown in theaters).
Third, the cinematography is pretty nice. Good job.
Laurence Maher May 24th, 2004, 06:07 PM Thanks for the replies all!!!
I really appreciate the input.
Nicholi Brossia May 24th, 2004, 07:38 PM Is that the lady that answers the phones in Office Space?
Linda Schodowsky May 24th, 2004, 09:04 PM Hi Laurence...
I really liked your clip. I think the cinematography is wonderful. I could definitely feel the moods between the two scenes.
But your website really sucks! Sorry... but it was way too hard to navigate through some things were hard to see. Too cluttered. Not to hurt your feelings or anything, but my nephew has a better looking web page than this, and he is 18!
However, I loved the clip, it caught my interest and I would like to see more!
Laurence Maher May 25th, 2004, 12:06 AM Nicholi,
Yes, it is in fact the same lady as in Office Space. Her name is Kinna McInroe. She's a wonderful actress, and I think was so great for my film. I was actually really lucky with the whole cast. They did very well I think.
Laurence Maher May 25th, 2004, 12:09 AM Linda,
LOLOL Ya, I think the site sucks too. Need to work more on that. I'm a far better filmmaker than site maker. All I know are basics in Front Page. I'll get around to someone helping me sooner or later.
Thanks again for the input!!!
Rob Belics May 25th, 2004, 06:35 AM The suicide scenes were well done. The "funny" scenes were cheesy and did not complement the "dark" scenes at all. It was like splicing scenes from Seinfeld and The Exorcist and trying to make it work.
