So, George, it is your contention that Panasonic is going to put DVCPro100 HD capability into and stream 100 Mbps video from the GS400, which is a miniDV format, as far as anyone knows for $1499? And, in the process, undercut the DVC30, DVX100A and the HD varicams?

if the gs400 was capable of doing HD, don't you think that they would've been schilling the hell out of it at NAB?

Yes, and professional cams are black, or at least the one that was used today in a shoot was. The cam wasn't made by any of the big cam makers. They had an O'Connor head so big that it would comprise of 4 MX5000's duct-taped together.

I'm in the holding pattern until Japan ups the ante.

They always do.

Well you don't press my buttons, i just don't think that you should get your heart too set on this cam being able to do HD in any way. There's no doubt in my mind that it'll be a great camera, but i think that in essence it'll be a gs100 with 4mp still capability and english menus, only time will tell tho and we'll know soon enough.

This cam will be SD, not HD. Unless you consider the "Chuckmeister" version of HD to be "high definition" ;-)

Still it will be very nice.

What is a Chuckmeister HD video camcorder? Who makes that one? Is it any good? How much does it cost?

Tom, the Chuckmeister mentioned that the Panasonic NV-GS100 was High Definition but only because it references this on the Panasonic Japan website. The problem is that High Definition does not mean HDTV in Japan but something more like high quality/resolution (maybe Allan can chime in). HiVision is what you would call HDTV in Japan.

The NV-GS100 is definitely a SD cam.
