I have a PD170 with a Sony CAC-12 mic holder and a Sennheiser ME66 mic with Rycroft Softie on it. I'm now looking for a bag that will hold this setup. Anyone have ideas on what bag(s) will fit this camera with the attached mic? I also have 2 50' XLR cables that I'd like to fit in the bag if at all possible. Can anyone give me ideas on what bags I could purchase? I'm leaning more towards a soft bag but open to hard cases as well.

I have 2 PD 150's in the Sony-supplied bag, a Petrol.

If I spin the microphone backward, a fur-covered shotgun fits in OK although I do cover the fur with a plastic sheath to keep the fur out of the zipper.

The bag normally carries the camera, WA adapter, 2 NP960's, a lens hood for the WA, a box of tapes, headphones, and 40' of cable. I have the cable in a soft bag so the connectors won't scratch the camera. The camera has the microphone reversed and lowered and the viewfinder raised to the vertical postion so it takes as little 'floor-space' as possible.

100' might be pressing your luck if you carry as much gear as I do.

Mike,

You carry TWO PD150's in the Sony bag? Wow, is there that much room in there that it can fit two cameras? I'm assuming that if I purchase the same Petrol bag vs the Sony one, I'd be getting away cheaper. Also I know the Petrol bags are probably cheaper than the Portabrace counterpart but I'm wondering if there is any benefit to getting a Portabrace aside from the name. Anyone with ideas on that?

Wrote that pretty wrong, I'd say. No, I have two PD150's each in it's own Petrol bag.

They were available from B&H as part of a kit with the rain cover for about $200 more than the camera alone. Made it a good buy. My first bag (actually is is more of a heavily padded nylon soft box) is over 2 years old and still looks good.

B&H still offers that kit (Sony-badged Petrol bag and rain cover) with the PD170, for less than if you bought the bag, cover, and camera separately. It's a good value and a good bag.
