I found this book (above name by John S. Douglass and Glenn P. Harnden) at my local Border's. It deals with many issues, including continuity between scenes, and of the whole production. There are also good discussions of interpreting what you shoot, with the camera, with lighting, and my favorite, by editing.
Now if someone would only write a book that acknowledges the fact that some of us shoot animals, not people.

Steve,
On your recommendation I got hold of a copy of this book. Excellent. For a relatively small book it's very comprehensive, featuring many good illustrative stills for topics. I especially like the book's emphasis on using framing, editing and lighting to lend interpretation angles to a story. It's really held my interest so far. My only criticism is it's relatively steep price ($50) for a b&w paperback.

Thanks very much for passing this along to us.
