View Full Version : (MacCentral) Magic Bullet adds film treatments on FCP timeline
Ken Tanaka April 7th, 2004, 09:22 PM According to a MacCentral story, MB's planning a new FCP plug-in product, "Magic Bullet for Editors", to be demonstrated at NAB. There is no announcement on Red Giant's site at this writing.

(I was hoping they'd drop that idiotic product name.)
Joe Collins April 7th, 2004, 09:51 PM I just tried out the demo of the Sapphire plugins and I really liked their film effect plug in but $600 is too steep for my budget.
So this looks like just the thing for me. I've been checking out the Magic Bullet Suite and I was wishing they would break out just the looks part of the program. I'm happy with the frame mode on the GL2, so I don't need/want the deinterlacing.
Try as I might, I have never gotten I look I'm happy with using just the FCP native tools (I'm sure it's my lack of skill/ability). I will gladly plunk down the $299 for this.
Yeah, the name is stupid but I sure like the look of all the examples I've seen using the Magic Bullet Suite :)
Graeme Nattress April 8th, 2004, 06:47 AM You should also check out my Film Effects plugin, which does everything the full MB does (and more) for a much more affordable price, and is FCP native and available now.

Joe Collins April 8th, 2004, 09:12 AM Hello Graeme. I just downloaded the demo and I'm giving it a try but I have a question. The manual says "Once you've found the one you like (preset), you can render it as is, or delete the G Film Presets Explorer from your clip and apply the same named preset, and have all the familiar G Film Plus controls available to tweak the preset to your needs."
I'm probably missing something but I can't figure out how to apply the preset I want to use when I delete the preset explorer and then add the G Film Plus plug in. Help...
Graeme Nattress April 8th, 2004, 09:20 AM Sorry, but I don't include all the individual presets as individual FCP filters as it takes me ages to update them for a release. There's very little in the way of automation for creating FCP filters, and to do that many is quite labourious, especially when it's for a demo and a full release together!
So for the demo, you can start from scratch with the G Film Plus, or you can explore the presets to give you a feel of what is possible.
Thanks,
Graeme
Joe Collins April 8th, 2004, 09:40 AM Thanks Graeme. I get it, I'm pretty new to FCP and I'm still learning. I'll render out some of the demo presets and see how they look. I like what I've seen so far.
Ken Tanaka April 8th, 2004, 09:32 PM Red Giant's MB for Editors page (http://www.redgiantsoftware.com/mbforeditors.html) is now up.
Availability: April 16, 2004.
Graeme Nattress April 9th, 2004, 06:16 AM So it's just the "looks" and not the 24p they're selling for $299.

Edward Natale April 11th, 2004, 05:44 PM I've used both Magic Bullet and the Nattress Film Effects, and I must say, Nattress Film Effects is a steal for only 100 dollars, especially since its FCP native and theres no need to enter AE just for a "film look".

Dave Largent April 11th, 2004, 08:00 PM So what's the main difference between the full
version and the Editor version? Just the 24P
conversion?
By the way, a very successful videographer
I know of says Graeme's G Film is the best "film look" program currently available.
So Graeme, when are you coming out with
the Windows version?
