View Full Version : Using a WD58 wide lens on a Sony VX1000

What do I need to use to adapt the Canon WD-58 wide-angle lens on a Sony DCR-VX1000? The Sony has a 52mm lens while the WD-58 is 58mm.

Will a simple filter step-up adapter do the trick?

Will the 58mm lens adapted to fit on the Sony work properly? Any problems with vignetting?

Thanks!

Ed,

I have no way to check this, but since you are going to a bigger lens, I expect that using the step down ring will result in no vignetting. The step up rings are not expensive, so it should be alow risk try (assuming you already have the WD58.

Thanks Ralph,

Yes I already have the WD-58 Canon lens adapter and use it on my Canon GL1. I would also like to use it occasionally on a Sony DCR-VX1000 which has a 52mm lens/filter size.

Basically I was just wondering if a step-up filter adapter (going from 52mm to 58mm) would actually work? Will a step-up adapter ring physically be strong enough to handle the weight of the Canon wide-angle lens adapter?

I would "guess" this to be the case, but was hoping that someone has already done this before...

While the WD 58 is probably not too light, I think most adapters would be perfectly able to handle the weight.
