I really need some help here. I am shooting a feature with two Sony V1U camcorders. The plan is to go directly to DVD. But the possibility of an international release is there so with that in mind what frame rate should I shoot 1080i, 30p, 24p, 24pa I will be editing with Adobe CS3.

I would shoot in 30p and use Encore to do the conversion to other formats if necessary. Otherwise, I'd target the primary audience.

I would also avoid shooting interlaced because it brings along a whole new set of problems if the footage has to be slightly re-scaled or if there are any kind of speed changes needed. Interlaced is a throw-back to when CRTs couldn't get an electron beam to scan fast enough.

Now that CRTs are going the way of the dodo bird, there will soon be no need for an interlaced format.

BTW, whatever workflow you decide upon, be sure to test it thoroughly before you commit. Sometimes unpleasant surprises can spring up when working in 24p and delivering to 30p or 60i.
